I was realy excited to see an archer class then more I read the more I am loseing interesting so figurd would ask.
I want to play an archer if I want to hit things with swords I would be a gwf or a rogue.
so the big question is or will the ranger be able to just stick with the bow and still be effective or will you be forced to switch.
I wouldn't mind it if switching for certain situations like mobs are right up my butt but generaly I want to stand back and pluck my bow and turn that dragon into a porcupine.
It's hard to tell if there's a "right forum" for this question, and you might not get it by Thursday, but how dose the bow on the new ranger work? Is it his off hand and his daggers one main hand in two places, is the bow not an equip but a visual, or dose switching weapon styles cause another pair of weapon slots to come up for the bow? Also, what is the offhand item that goes with the bow if the last one is used?

since you start off with a bow at level 1 and don't get to switch until around level 20, your main hand is the bow and your off hand are the daggers. although i would imagine this is interchangeable until level 60 as you're going to have the limitation of having only one weapon enchantment slot then.
You get the ability to switch at lvl 10 when you get access to the tab function. Yes you can stick to just using the bow if you want. That is how I play. You do not have to switch between the two if you don't want to. You also get the stats from your off hand weapons (the blades) just like any other class with their off hand item.

This is exactly how I have played 12 or so HRs to level 12 as well as my Archery spec (Teifling) to level 60 and my Nature spec (Dwarf) to 40ish (hopefully 60 later today).
The HRs main weapon is the bow, you do not get access to any melee functions until level 10 when they unlock with Tab. As rhoric correctly notes the blades apply their stat bonuses when you are using your bow anyway. Further to this the ranged powers typically do up to double the melee version of the power's damage.
There are many people here who advocate for "hybrid" or "switching" builds, but personally I find staying in ranged 80-100% of the time means I take less damage and do more damage regardless of Archery or Nature spec.
Btw I recommend getting the Man-At-Arms, boost Aspect of the Pack to 3/3 asap and stay within 2-3 shifts of him and always have Combat Advantage.
Obsidian Moonlight - Paladin Obsidian Oath - Warlock A whole lot of other Obsidian toons as well.

After Testing Today on my half orc i find that you can Go full a full ranged build its requires some changing in feats Though i will i am gonna post the build in my Build Thread in a second.

I plan to create a Hunter Ranger that is 80-85% all ranged (Bow and Arrow) and it IS doable. I've rolled three of them at Preview. The switching stance to melee is okay, but not my thing (my Rogue is fun melee, the HR isn't).
There are three basic "paths" you can take with HR: Range-ficussed, Melee-focused and Hybrid. The real question is how best to do this. Fortunately there are some min-maxer players who thrive on this stuff and helpful to others at the same time, so I really want to thank Voltomey who created a thread (link below), which is everything you need to know to understand the powers and feats for creating your chosen HR:
