No, not at all. Based on playing on preview they will dethrone neither TR's nor CW's. They will compete with GF's and GWF's. THey play very differently than any other class (and I am loving it!).
The right to command is earned through duty, the privilege of rank is service.

^this. The Ranger is a very different class to CW or TR, bringing a truckload of ranged utility to the table and medium DPS.
By the way, are you able to fully use the CW's range? More than often in pvp I am getting the "You need a target for this power" error message, despite of the fact that the said target is quite close, sometimes right in front of me. Also, the angle of vision seems to buf the powers. When I am seeing my char "from above", Diablo style, with also all the targets very visible on the screen, my powers are greyed. If I go for a more horizontal angle, seeing my char "from behind" then my powers come back.
To make a long story short, does the CW actually make use of his long range in PvP ?
As I looking the Hunters attributes its very fitting for ranged DPS unsurprisingly. It has a whole paragon with very good feats for it.
I seriously doubt it can overDPS cws with GV or PV and a good build overall but it can be more than a match in ranged damage.
Cw's will continue to top the charts for damage until they receive a damage nurf.
I personally don't want to see that happen to CW's because I think the class is pretty balanced as is butof CW's do take a damage nurf they will remain effective in both PVP and PVE but they will focus more on control than AoE.
Also, I have encountered times when my control powers did very little to slow down a GWF. It seems that if you want to be a CW hunter a GWF may be the way to go.
The Hunter Ranger seems like it will be a nice edition to adventuring parties because of his ability to avoid damage and still dish out the pain. Th
His abilities will be useful in du geons that rogues have a difficult time staying alive in melee.
In terms of aoe cw wins atm, but singletarget dps im pretty sure ranger can even keep up with tr's.
But it's to early to look into it in detail, cuz ranger is most likly the most gear dependent class, and since no one on the ptr has either a full t2 set or any good weapons u can only speculate.
A ranged spec ranger with a perfect lightning enchant spamming split arrow will likely do some awesome AoE damage. The fact that they have a spammable AoE with no target limit and a huge range means that they should do some pretty spectacular damage.

It's because you can only shoot at things you aim at, and if you are seeing your character "from above" it means that you are aiming at the ground underneath you. You have to actually point your cross hair thingy at the things you want to shoot, not just be facing them, unless you are using an AOE that doesn't need a target.
