1. Shared mail storage.
2. Account-wide benefits, e.g. the account-wide Zen mounts.
3. Zen-AD exchange account, which enables you to transfer AD between characters without paying a fee.
4. Same Friends and Ignore list (important due to copious gold spammers in this game).
5. Players know who you are on that account, so your alts etc. are recognized, can easily enter the same guild and other known groups.

Of all the ways to spend zen buying toon slots is always good since they can pay for themselves via Leadership. It is not super fast but it is there to be taken advantage of.

Totally worth it for the reasons that fundlez and because you wouldn't have to switch accounts to switch characters.

IMO, buying more character slots is worth it if you have several account-wide unlocks - such as mounts, the various packs, and/or the promotional companion unlocks. It's also nice to be able to pool your ADs via the exchange.

This. And for $5 or a mild amount of in game farming it's well worth it!
Buying 2 character slots for 500 Zen is definitely worth it for all the reasons listed above.
You can defray the cost by using one character slot for a "Farming Alt" to farm Black Lake Terror Skirmish from levels 6-11
Nets:
75K AD (approximately) from skirmishes
Materials from harvesting skill nodes during the Professions event
First Hire Professional assets (mercenary, tailor, apothecary etc) for all Professions (auction or use)
Gold enough to buy 2 Professional Assets (worn varieties)
Invoke for 2 Days once you reach level 12, buy Elixir. Transfer Elixir and Peasant Garb and Pants to main Character, then Auction
Transfer all items (Mail) and AD (ZEN AD Exhange) to your main character(s)
Delete Farm Alt, and create a new one
Repeat 3 times and you have paid off the initial 500 ZEN investment, even at the current 400 AD to 1 ZEN exchange rate
have 27 slots, but still need more. because there`s no reroll on basestats and no dualspecs.
for each char you want you need loads of slots and waste time.
guess my own fault the slots are filled, thought dps cleric was hot sometime so made a load of those ;p
needed the chars for crafting and invoking.
hated the exploit and failruns during dungeon delves so chose for a more reliable income.
I have also found the character slot expansions to be invaluable. My personal logic:
1. Extra profession slots. It takes very little effort to get your toons to L2 in your professions, which is enough to hire the number of workers you have slots for. Within a few days, each toon will be 3-4 slots each. As you level your main professions, I find that selling the workers pays QUICKLY for the green/blue/purple version of those workers. Example: I usually sell outfitters for about 7k AD. The blues are 45k. Sell 7 outfitters = 1 blue. Between my 8 toons, I currently have 40 slots available. That's enough for 10 outfitters in 2 days, or about 70k AD worth.
2. Storage. Bags seem to suck HAMSTER here. They never drop as loot, and they're darn expensive in the AH. Granted, after doing the clocktower quest in Neverdeath Graveyard, you get your third bag. But with the regular drops of enchants and potions, those take up just over 1 full bag. I use one of my toons for storing all my enchants, another for the potions. I then sell the enchants and potions in blocks of 25 on the AH. It's a pain to mail regularly between toons, but the bag space makes is so worthwhile. And also remember the extra bank space.
3. Money. Getting to L11 doesn't take much effort. A couple of days of lazy play, and you'll have your second slot (L3 profession). The third is probably getting your toon to L30. Or if you've sold a lot of workers and have 2 purple guys, that's a quick slot gain for every toon - 100% speed bonus on a gathering mission. In process of getting to L11, you'll end up with your peasant gear. I find that it often sells for 1k - 2k AD each on the AH. From there, playing until L26ish will get you into Neverdeath Graveyard and the quest "A Doomguide's Duty". Finishing that will grant a profession pack. That usually goes for 60k - 75k AD on the AH as a quick sale. Of course, there's also praying. I get 8x Coffer of Wondrous Augmentation each week. That's 175k AD per week for praying once a day. Doesn't get any easier than that.
This opinion in devoid of any relationship to reality.

What are the Benefits of buying new character slots, as opposed to just making a new account?
Now i realize that $5.00 is a really good price, compared to other games, but those other games gave me stuff like shared storage and shared pets.
Yes, its worth it.
Whether you play several characters or have an army of Leadership mules... Its still worth it.
Account-Wide Mounts & Companions
Shared Mail
Shared AD/Zen Exchange
If you are making an army of Leadership & Invoking mules then having them on one account can also cut down on the hassle of switching. (Keeping up with 15+ accounts would be a nightmare imo.)
I already think its worth it, but you should also look to the future. For example they may add account-bound items and a shared bank later. Or just more unlocks that are account-wide.
How do you exchange AD between characters without loss?
I am only familiar with buying zen and sell zen with the other character but then you have some loss because of the AD/zen exchange rate.
For benefit of all,
1. 3rd icon at the top = Zen/AD Exchange market.
2. Buy XXXX Zen for 100 AD. XXXX*100 AD = amount of AD you wish to transfer. XXXX currently has a cap of 5,000. (*)
3. Go to Listings tab and Cancel Listing. This places the listing's AD in your Zen/AD exchange account.
4. Change Character.
5. Bring up the Zen/AD Exchange market and Withdraw the AD from the Zen/AD exchange account to the character.
(*) The reason this works is because no one will be offering Zen so far below the market price. Note. the amount transferrable this way each time may be lower than 500k AD. I have yet to confirm but it may be around 250k AD.

if you do not want to shop, however, have different accounts is the best way to continue to not shop (they never merge your accounts)

First thing I bought in this game. Given the fairly democratic price, it's easy to pay for with AD.
