Looking at the forums, it's just as with most MMOs, full of people wrangling about the problems of the game. But I just thought I'd let the developers know that as a newbie (but getting there, lvl 32 now), this is one of the best MMOs I've ever played, with a really fun, viscerally satisfying combat system, great dungeon crawling and some nice story. The level of attention to detail in the world and story building is superb (I think exceeded only by GW2 and TSW at the moment) and the build system, while not the D&D I remember, is nevertheless absorbing to play with. Balance seems to be spot on at the moment in PvE. I've only dabbled in PvP so far, so can't speak to that (but it retains the kinetic feel of the PvE combat - fast, fast, fast, got to be on your toes, which I love).

The best experience so far for me is grouped dungeons and skirmishes. I think Cryptic must have worked a lot on the pacing of their dungeons - hard to put my finger on it, but "flow" is the closest word I can think of. It's got the real trancey flow of a good hack'n'slash, but isn't totally brainless either, with the challenging bits and surprises seeming to come at just the right time, and always in varied ways that aren't just gratuitously difficult, but seem to make sense in context (i.e. in story context).

So that's me as a casual player who plays maybe an hour or two a day, and as much as I can at weekends. So far, the levelling process is deeply satisfying, and while I find I've had to pump a bit of money into the game to get the most out of it, it's really no more, all told, than I would have done if I'd been paying a subscription, so it's quite fair IMHO (at least at this level). Shop is unobtrusive, which is a graceful move on Cryptic's part.

From bad experiences with Cryptic's scorched earth policy on CO and (pretty much, nowadays) STO, I suspect that Cryptic are probably working on the next big shiney atm, and this game will eventually languish on maintenance mode like those games, with hardly any of the major recurring and complained-about bugs, QOL issues and balance/gameplay problems solved - and most importantly, and most sadly, with the tremendous potential people usually see in Cryptic games when they start, left unfulfilled.

But just for now? This is a really, really fun game that's well worth the time and money I'm putting into it.

i'm definitely with you on this... i have five characters, four level 60 and have been playing since april. and just last night, i found a secret side map in one of the dungeons and had to battle a few gelatinous cubes. great stuff. ferris bueller had it spot on when he said "life moves pretty fast. if you don't stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it." ;D

I'm with you on this as well. NWO is a well thought out, very good game with great graphics. Where did you see the cubes? I've only seen them once in the same mini dungeon, I forget where that was.

Guru - so good to hear something POSITIVE on this forum!

I don't think the game starts till 60 anyway, but leveling can be fun - but maybe a bit slow and a bit easy.

I think endgame is great - especially if you have a good guild! I can run CN/MC 5+ times a day and have a blast doing it.

Haven't found the cubes yet but, I found a dead party in some dungeon, in a room filled with chests, couldn't beat them though... it was hrder than the final boss XD
And also, I love the game too, I just reached 60 on a char, too bad I just decided I prefer another race and since there is no race change I'll better just make another one XD
the maps are very well done, lots of really impressive places around.

yes the first cube you run into is in the cloak tower which you run through leveling up.

the little side dungeon i found was in normal temple of the spider. i don't know if this is in the epic version. if you can find a group that will do a little exploring, it shouldn't be that difficult to find.

dude i totally remember this scenario but don't remember what dungeon that is in. it's a leveling quest dungeon... maybe in whispering caverns. or whereabouts. my first run through with my first character (gwf) i died so much in there... but i was after that LOOT and eventually i got it.

Yeah, you gotta love those secret side entrances and hidden treasure chests hanging over a cliff.
    Good times for exploration!

My normal instinct in games is to poke my nose around and explore. It's always a bit disappointing when a game doesn't reward that with something (even if it be just a bit of lore). Both GW2 and this game are notable for rewarding a bit of curiosity and going out of one's way.

If I recall correctly, there's also a cube in the Water Clock Guild Tomb mission.

Yeah, I also really like this game. Been playing mostly TR so far but I have GF, CW and DC alts and I find the DC really fun to play. Think I'll get a stone for it now and go hardcore during the upcoming event. Heh.

Oh, and I'm also making a GG pvp set for my TR. Can't do much more on my swash and I have the fabled fomorian daggers already. It'll be very interesting testing out various enchantments that I have never tried before.

    Edit:

The only secret boss I've done so far is the one in epic spellplague. Doesn't drop anything great but it's fun with these easter eggs none the less.

Many players remember how they liked the game when they were lvl 32.
Somehow once you're 59 and when you level up for the last time, the system should display "Congrats! You won the game. Your char will now be deleted, please have a look at our other games"

I think this game is the best between the others F2P.

IMO I don't think it can compare to some of the best pay to play because of a lot of things, like the frequency of content release (really low currently, a lot of people are done making CN and MC), class balance (rock-paper-scissors PvP balance is bad if the group comp isn't fixed to everyone), challenging PvE content (none, you can end a dungeon in 30min or less with the minimum GS, and don't get stuck in a boss because of tough mechanics), dedication on environment (you can skip 60% of Castle Never)... BUT the game doesn't even has 1 year, theres a lot to be fixed, implemented, and I don't expect bad administration.

By the other way, the leveling here is the most amazing and enjoyable that I ever experienced; the powers and active spells mechanics are pretty much well made (can't wait to see the other paragon paths), and some boss encounters are fun to make.

I play it because I think, indeed, this is a great game; but please don't try to compare it to P2P.

My relation with neverwinter is like love/hate lol

The game have HUGE flaws but at the same time im rly enjoying playing it.

Im arround this foruns for sometime now and i follow all the interviews, videos, game site critics, ect.... over 2 years even before the game was released. The was suposly to be a CooP game, after cryptic got bought by perfect world they decide to make an MMO with "open world" areas. Thats for me is one of the flaws, instanciated "open world" areas with 0 exploration... theres nothing new to discover in this game if u are lvl 60 and done all areas (like i did).

Then they decide to implement PvP which delayed the game for some months.... the delay was ok for me BUT TO ADD PVP in a game that was built to be purelly PvE.... i think that was a HUGE MISTAKE and is taking too much efford and time for cryptic to keep tweek it and balace it while theres still many bugs related to class mechanics... For example look at DC's, almost all powers dont use ur Armor penetration and some spells dont crit... cmon seriously... thats basic class game mechanic thats should be top priority and im only speak about DC's.... Dont get me wrong, i PVP ALOT and love it, im just saying it was a bad decission from cryptic to add PvP insted of tweeking the classes/content/environment better.

I play with in real life friends but some of them are already thinking to quit the game duo the fact that we cont have nothing much to do latelly beside some PvP... we are NOT full perfects, rank10's, ect... so we could still be arround and farm enough AD to buy it but for what ?? we already do every single dungeon in this game without any problem and beside that is rly boring to do CN and 1-2 T2 for AD farm, in PvP only (or most of the times) perfect's premades can kick us and even so sometimes they dont lol

i love the combat in this game... but to be honest at this moment thats the only thing i like about this game and that whats keeping me arround. I will wait for Module 2 to come out... if things will be only 1% similar to module 1 then im done :/ And let me say i will be rly sad to quit neverwinter.....
