Sentinel DPS for PvE

Welcome !

For starters, i want to make a stand that i am a newb and dont understand why my stats arent working as beautifully as i would want'em to. Thus, i'm making this thread.

Table of conent :

1. My stats/feats and gear (pic).
2. My starategy in instances.
3. My questions.

1. The great statistic of Sinafey the Dark Blade. (named after terror enchant, dont ask, it just looks <font color="orange">HAMSTER</font>)

- passives Weapon Maser and Bravery
- actives Takedown/Flourish/IBS

2. The strategy of Sinafey the Dark Blade.

Basically, since im rolling a gwf, i found 4 things:
-i cant heal
-i cant outdps tr/cw
-i cant hold agro like gf
-i cant cc like cw

So, u ask, why roll a gwf in the 1st place...point is, im playing a supportive role in all my runs, means im the last one to die so i can brag about it and ditch blame on others. Feels good and actually generates 2 things, 1 is a lil bit of respect, other is ppl shut up cuz im alive and they are not, so they cant put a blame on me for failed attempt.
Playing as a support, thus utilizing adaptive nature of gwf i do what ever needs to be done at the particular moment.
Means i can:
- kite adds (if i by some miracle get a hold of agro, or usually when tank dies)
- help dropping mobs (which i actually dont do, but just running and creating chaos, spamming skills makes a good impression im usefull, when im just too lazy to equip roar and deequip it every 5 mins)
- kill annoying adds quicker then cc cws ( usually that happens a lot in FH or MC if we all kill 1st boss)
- stay alive without healer
- dps boss and dont give a sht whats around me (part which i like the most btw)
- shake big adds off team to make their life way easier

Yes, i can do all that stuff pretty nicely with the build i have, which btw is more pvp focused than pve. Basically i can do whatever is needed at the particular moment, with a high attraction to just dpsing whatever i can. Thats my role in my pt (or just talk with gf/tr/gwf while cws and dc exploit bugs and stuff in instances). And for that i have made my build all-round around the clock with stats....medicore crit,dps,defence ect ect. So now that u ppl get my playstyle and what i do for a living, let's go to part 3.

3. My questions :)

1st thing i noticed is that i have problems with shaking agro quickly enough from cws/dcs/trs when we do f.e. spell...i can kite 2-3 maws to the death so my party can easily kill the boss, BUT the actual problem is getting that agro. One thing i tried was to up my dps by slotting more recovery and crit BUT we will come to that later.

1st question is, how to increase my agro without changing feats?

2nd thing i noticed is that i severly lack dps (look question 1) to actually keep up with my party on certain points, like for example, killing pits in spell quickly enough so party doesnt have to help me there, or killing archers on FH boss not quickly enough to help with boss dps. Im a poor guy for now, dont have stone, and using terror enchant for 2 reasons, 1st is i like the looks, 2nd i though bonus -def will be a good support for the team (tho im mostly dpsing whatever i dps alone beside the times when i IBS mobs in singularity).

2nd question is, what stats to increase to actually up the dps without changing feats?

3rd thing is related to both question 1 and 2. Basically i found that recovery does sht for me. Literally. I find that the cd bonus isnt great eough, even when im constantly on avatar boost, i did some quicky math and it turns out that 1,3k recovery cuts my cd of IBS and flourish by 0.3 second...only noticable difference is in AP gain, i notice i do more crescendo b4 slotting recovery, also i get boost to arpen, so i dont need that much from slots/gear. Then we have crit which i found out that after my 3,1k crit stat doesnt stack so well for me (kinda low dex for crit build ik, but thats cuz im well-rounded). And then we have power which most of the gwfs i met said its basically useless stat...tho im beggining to doubt that...Ofcourse there is also arpen, but i have no idea how well arpen works in pve.

3rd question is, which of those 4 stats should i focus more and which forget in slotting to actually up my dps in pve? And which enchants do you guys recommend? Again, no feat change.

For all the ppl who know what they are doing out there, and actually understand my tactics in pve, am thankfull for advices.

And no, i wont go destro to pump my ego about leaderboards, i dont give a sht about those, all i want are some advices to up my dps a little and help me get more agro on the big guys.

    Why stacking strength?
    CONS = 1% damage from its penetration + 2% HP
    DEX = 1% damage from its crit and 0,25% damage resistance from deflect
    ... while STR gives only 1% damage. (and some stamina)
    Stacking CONS instead of STR frees your stats from nessesity of stacking 2k penetration(or recovery), allowing you to stack power instead. If you moved useless 2k recovery to power, you would do more damage and also free 5 feat points for something usefull.

    Well its nice that someone actually cared to reply. From what ur talking here u kinda confirmed my suspicions on the bonus 25% arpen from recovery being quite useless...which those points could go to bleed dmg...problem is i heard its not power thats counting for it but weapon dmg, which practically makes it sux even if u stack shtload of power...would be nice if some who actually uses it and see it working could make a stand in that matter in here...

    Also, in my previous build i had maxed con insteed of str...when i respec'd i noticed like 1k drop in hp for the crit bonus...at that time i didnt really cared bout arpen (very newb times) but it didnt made that much of a difference tho...and high str combined with bravery and probably stamina recharge as last boon from shar, i think ill be able to kite some more...unless u ppl have a different idea of last boon. And i dunno if i failed to ask earlier...whats the soft cap for arpen in pve? like whats the max arpen% thats usefull for pve? Aka, whats the avarage dmgred mob do have in instances?

    For one, I see alot of GWF's who have your kind of play style. More chaos and support than trying to focus any one thing. These are the GWF's that get out DPSed by my GF and one of the main reasons why I have stopped inviting GWF's into my groups.

    To up your aggro you have one choice. Increase your damage, Sprint in to mobs first blow unstoppable ASAP and chug potions until a GWF or CW eventually gets the threat off you. You cannot sustain Aggro since you cannot OUt DPS a TR or CW and you cannot out threat a GF. Best you can do is protect the DC. if the other 3 classes arnt doing that already.

    Now for stats you want. 2,000 ARP. As this will eliminate all defenses from normal Elite mobs in PvE allowing all your attacks to do full damage. If you have high COn and armor penetration from there then you need only about 1500 ARP. But some GWF's have told me con lowers defense past the ARP cap so 2k ARP maybe the way to go no matter what your Con.

    And then 2800 Crit. Any More than this and you have gone so far past the soft cap it is really hard to gain more crit. If you want mroe crit. Focus Dex and 3 feats for improved crit chance. This works best if you use Vorpal.

    The rest is Power for Damage and Lifesteal for threat. Healing form lifesteal makes threat. The more you heal the more threat you make. But still this will not tip the scales in your favor to out threat other classes. Even with sentinal threat feats a GWF is still an epic fail in threat.

    In order to tank as a gwf, you have to do enough damage to get aggro, and if you fail to get aggro, you will fall behind further because you won't receive damage to build determination. A destroyer builds determination much faster than sentinel because their damage gets some determination and when they are in unstoppable mode they can do decent enough damage to outdamage teammates for aggro. A sentinel is pretty much a very sturdy punching bag no one wants to punch.

    cyanbluestone is giving a lot of misinformation about armor penetration. Please scrub your mind of what he said and read this.

    Big thx cyan, thats the kind of answer i was looking for, NUMBERS. Also big thx for confirming lifesteal threat generation, that should be more helpfull for my defence slots for pve :D

    And also big thx to chocobo for correcting that arpen stuff. Also regarding senti vs destro choice, i belive i mentioned senti build is a focus for pvp, but to get stuff for pvp, i need to do pve, thus why asking questions how to up my dps.

    I will try to implement some of those tips and change my gear setup a little, but still looking for fresh ideas on how to up dps with gear stats only ;p

    you will need a greater vorpal or better as a sentinel to even do noticable damage. otherwise you will end up being a wallflower.

    Probably with sentinel you dont get focused destroyer, which is a bit up in damage, you just get up trailing far behind dps because sentinel doesnt offer much in ways of damage. I know its not what you want to hear, but i my gwf was my pet project funded by my wizard and i was sentinel for about a month.

    It can work but its the least efficient build compared to any other in pve, sentinel however means you will rarely die or die last, but apart from that you wont be doing much of anything else until everyone else dies.

    Yes grimah, i noticed that...with comparable GS i can even outlast most of the tanks im runnign with...and yeah, ik my dps will sux, im ust looking for a way to improve and balance out my stats for the most efficient way...tbh i was doing some math and reseach on the dps output, and it turns out what i have in mind so far, based by advices here, and in game, ill need some really end-gme stuff to make some noticable changes...

    Tho it doesnt change the fact senti build is one of the most solo-able builds i encountered so far, tho the fotf patch cutted down on that ability a bit too much...wont be giving out exmples cuz if any of u rolled a senti u know what i mean...it would be a perfect path if devs decided to up the agro gain significantly on gwf...but oh well...but like i included in the beggining, its good to brag and put blame on others when im last one standing xD

    you might try slotting Bloodtheft Enchantment. I have heard anecdotal reports that it massively increases agro.

    My destroyer can out damage an CW or TR or GF with similar GS any day, at least across an entire delv.

    I use come and get it and masters strike to maximize target damage, take down to interrupt, Indomitable to damage.

    I haven't tried sentinel build, so can really comment on your choices, but, this game is more about enchantments than anything else, good way to get people to spend money to win.

    Hey ssinafey,

    I was specced into destroyer before the great SLAM Patch went live. I have rly good DPS equip (Avatar of War Set + CN weapon + greater Vorpal and lots of r8 ench.)

    After the Patch went live i was rly disappointed how far this reduced my dmg in comparison to a good geared CW or TR. I was still able to out dps most of CWs / Tr. But not that far i was doing before the patch went live. So i thought a bit, what can i do with my GWF to make it usefull to the group.

    If i am Destroyer my focus is definetly on doing as much dmg as possible. And u still can do rly fine if u get the numbers (24% arm. pene, 3k Recovery, 6k Power, ca. 36-40 % crit dmg) But u will never get a place in a grp when the choice is between u and a good CW. Because the CW can do much more than just insane dps, he has the power of the best CCs in the game.

    So i thuoght, hrm, lets try sth else.

    I want to have fun in Dungeons, want to clear it. What helpes most in some dungeons other than being the top dps class. For sure its the insane stay alive ability a GWF has.

    I respecced and went into sentinel. I tried to find a real good balance between dmg and tanking and finally i found my place in enough grps. As Sentinel u can do almost the same dmg as a destroyer, if u have rly good gear. But as a sentinel u can do so much more. U can tank the Boss if there is no GF in Grp. With sure strike and good dmg u easily get the aggro of all Bosses. In PvP u can built a real undestroyable machine with reg. + lifesteel + gr. lifeleech ench.

    As Sentinel u can easily switch ur gear in PvE dungeons. For example i get into a grp with a GF i put on my dmg gear and score 1st or 2nd place in Dmg. Thats enough. U stay alive while other classes are oneshotet, can rezz them. Even with Dmg gear.

    If there is no GF and u do for example MC, switch DMG gear to Tank gear. 2x Titan (chest and arms) 2 x T1 tank set - Buff up with food and tank rings / necklace and get up to almost 40k Life. Or just switch armor to tankgear and keep the dmg rings / amus and make a good mix. U can tank Bosses as good as a GF can. But u never gonna tank as much adds as a GF, because your area dmg aggro building is so fckin bad.

    GWF is in my opinion one of the classes that needs rly rly good equip to play in the top numbers.

    Since i went sentinel and i become a real allrounder, to switch gear for whatever is needed, its so much fun again. U can rock in PvE, u can rock in PvP.

    With destroyer or instigator path u just are a simple dmg dealer. And to be honest, u never ever will out dps a real good TR or CW who goes on max. dmg. And i am speaking of max dmg (perf. Vorpal, etc) I think it is not possible to beat the CW in Area dmg and u cannot beat the TR in single target dmg. So with the big patch changeing few important things for GWF in my opinion u are forced into sentinel to have fun. Like i said, in my opinion.

    The numbers i mentioned i took from some forum posts. Reading the forum since the game was released and tried almost every thing that was said to be good.

    So i can say, specc to sentinel, get some tank gear, mix it or go full dps or go full tank and u will find a place in a Grp. For sure. And not because you are the imba perfect dmg dealer, no its because u can deal rly good dmg, but can also tank, and u can rezz the others when they are going down.

    To be honest, there are for sure some destroyers that can still outdps a rly good CW or TR. But for that u need gear that would take years to farm (r10 ench, etc) And when u ever reach that top gear, u will notice, that when other classes get the same gear by time u have, they still will outdps u.
