lots of you are afraid to not be seen or something ?
and thinking a 2 times the same message will not end you up on spam and ignore lists.
it`s worse then goldsellers.
also the same line each 5 or 10 sec.
i would make a poll if i knew how to.
to show how many people just click on report spam for that.
or is it common to just do ?

i only report gold spammers and the rare annoying individual. i have a much higher tolerance for player spam, though.

There really should be a timer on posts, no more than 3 in zone chat in one minute or something like that; it gets so annoying that I usually just click my guild tab which doesn't have any of that trash.

maybe you don`t play that much as i do then.
i had that tolerance also till yesterday.
    it gets worse and worse.
and it just has no use at all that double posting.

if i`m looking for a group and i have to see each message twice, 3times or even 4/5 times within 10 sec. it`s brainwashing.
and just a waste of time.
but ok, with you 2 there s no chance to talk.
talking about tolerance while trying to show you re better then someone else.
    next realistic people please.

    yes that`s a good idea.
    best in ages.
well it s not realy in zonechat. but the lfg part.
    trade also sometimes.
but yes all channels need it then.
    which is ok.

In the MTGO client, they have a marketplace, where you post a line or two of what you are selling, and it stays there... no scrolling. The Buyer can search the listing for keywords, and if they see something they like, they can chat the player up.

I'd preffer for a solution that doesn't affect us non-spammers that like having a chat with players in the zone chat :)

yes, i like to use zonechat also.
i personly can`t think of how much messages each minute would be nice.
or how much seconds between each message.
maybe it`s not needed also, somewhere is an end if all spammers are on ignore ;p
    but what a work.

i admit now right away i also do it to prevent grouping with them in the future.
because if they re selfish with the spam, maybe more things are wrong with the person.
i don `t know. but for me personly it s an extra reason to ignore ;p

i'm not sure how you gleaned from my reply that i think i'm better than others. i've actually changed the colors of zone chat to be nearly invisible unless i go into mouse-mode. i also have different chat tabs which block the different chat zones. gold spam hurts the game economy and is against the TOS. player spam, i can overlook and/or ignore.

    and i'm in-game quite a bit.

Easiest solution is remove ability to cut and paste as well as shift +↑ key to repost the exact same msg repeatedly. There is already a 3 post limit within a certain amount of seconds. There didn't used to be, and gold spam would scroll for days the same spam over and over and it didnt stop until you reported them. it kept going although you had them on ignore so you didnt see it. There spam would continue flooding zone chat until 20 players reported them and they got hit with 24 hour chat ban, which forced them to switch to yet another umpteen thousand of their free accounts to start spamming non stop again.

If everyone had to retype their msg each time it would be more inconvenient yes, but along with the 3 msg per x seconds limit would cut down the amount of "legitimate" player spam.

cooldown on paste would do it yes :)
if that`s possible in any way. hahaha

because everyone uses copy paste i guess, but not all abuse it.

somewhere near 30 sec cd would be fair i guess

if it`s possible it`s going to be a nice feature for any game :D
well it won`t work against bots, because they use text input.

All a cooldown will do is end changing...

    Spam
    Spam
    Spam
    Spam

    Into...

Spam spam spam spam spam spam spam

Lines of text will be replaced with huge blocks of text.

so you mean i`m one of a little group that ignores spammers ?
doubt it, but unless that`s polled it `ll not be clear.
    but either way.
you must have weird friends who like nonsense comments.

My opinion i would suggest either limit it to
    one text every 30 seconds
    or disable copy and paste.

before you complain about the copy and paste.
imagine the way the chat spam will be like after
    server merge. lol...

yes would give some work to ignore those too ;p
depending on how much i like the game and keep playing i`ll ignore those also all. hehe
ah well, some tokens extra from mc and i`m done with lfg, so then i`ll just disable it.
even starting to dislike the different languages they talk in groups, they might be cursing the ... about you ;p
so, i`m glad if there`s a game with seperate language servers.

I think a simple rate limit would suffice - the key is to implement one that is reasonable for non-spammers, while simultaneously limiting spam in general. 3 messages in 1 minute is too severe. Something like max 1 message per 5 seconds would probably suffice. I disagree with not permitting the use of copy-paste or arrowing-up to repeat a message, as legitimate guilds or those advertising useful chat channels, should not be prohibited from what I think is a proper use of these tools, (as long as they likewise don't spam either).

I played a game a few years back called "Territory Wars" where chat messages could not be repeated for at least 30 sec. worked pretty well. if you were just chatting (not repeating message) there was no timer, but if you tried to spam, you'd get the message "You must wait to repeat your message" was like cooldown on skills but only if the message typed was exactly the same as before.

Spammers would make it through by just adding 1 2 3 4 to the ends of their posts. Ive no problem with a delay between posts or a paste cooldown. At least on trade/LFG/Zone most my chit chatting is via say, emote, guild, or tell. Also big blocks of texts are easier to tune out then a bunch of 1-2 line messages so id rather see spam spam spam spam spam then each spam on ites own line .

I'll usually wait 15-20 seconds between each message if the chat is real active. Every 45s otherwise.

I will admit 3 or 4 times where I got frustrated and pasted the message two times in a row. Oops!

Dome classes don't need to spam. Now let's say your class name starts with a G. You shout a LFG. No answer. What now? You go and play another MMO ?
