Hi all !
I am Hoping that we Could use thise thread as a signature list to gather as many signatures, on that the game needs the Old fashion Cleric. The one you remember from the old games Neverwinter nights.
Were the Cleric can use Mace, shield and equip a Chain mail.
I Hope that others out there leaves their signature on this thread to see how many signatures it takes to get the old cleric back.
Regards

Mace and shields could be good but I think that current DC needs other things of the "classical style": blessing, sanctuary (OP) or maybe an heal that it isn't HoT? ^_^

There's already a cleric in game with a mace and shield. You have to kill him in the last area of the Chasm. :P

The Neverwinter Nights series is based on the Pen&Paper Forgotten Realm Setting that use the D&D rules. Neverwinter Nights series is based on the D&D rule setting 3.5, but only covers a small percentage of the rule books available and also do not implement all core rules of D&D. Authentic D&D gameplay (which is strategic turn based combat) is only available by some few games like "the temple of elemental evil".

Clerics with shield & mace in 3.5 setting was always one option to play a cleric but never the only one. In fact, a caster focused cleric (like the devoted cleric in Neverwinter) will be become much stronger in D&D 3.5 then a classical mace&board cleric.

Neverwinter is only very loosly based on the ruleset of D&D 4. In D&D 4, there are two path options available for the cleric (but it is not mandatory to follow them): the battle cleric and the devoted cleric. The battle cleric is the classical mace wielding melee cleric, while the devoted cleric focus on range spells. Nevertheless, a devoted cleric could just take a mace just as a battle cleric could use the same ranged spell as a devoted cleric. So, it is more or less an orientation, but nothing that is fixed.

The same is e.g. true for the fighter class ... there is no seperate great weapon fighter or guardian fighter in authentic D&D 4, just a fighter class that follow a path that is however not madatory.

However, since Neverwinter unfortunately is strictly bound to a traditional and narrow-minded WoW-clone like class system, it is highly unlikely that the devoted cleric will ever swing a mace. There might be a second "battle cleric" class, but I doubt even that considering the speed of the developer team.

So the petition is quite nice but will be quite unsucessfull.

Meaning its useles to have mace and shield on Clerics ? thought that they could have more Defence that way so that they could stay alive a littel longer. plus its good looking.
But still think they could get more players by sticking to Pen&Paper settings. (so that Noobs like me would think that they are playing the same rule set as they are used to )

There is some old vids of the game (E3) where you can see the cleric with a shield and a mace.
Guardian fighters had the sword in the back with the shield also.
And the CW/Warlock used a staff.
