What can you do once you reach level 60?....experience points are meaningless, correct? are you able to do any special quests or get special weapons/gear?

My understanding is that epic dungeons and the acquisition/imrpovement of gear are primary motivators at 60. There's also the Sharandar campaign.

so far I am just follwoing along with the regular story line and following the map......not chooseing any special foundry or daily quests.......does a story eventually end and a new one begins or do you just keep finding quests? I'm currently in an area that are based on the drow and mind flayers....

After that, you should be introduced to the new Feywild module. That is designed to be repeatable. Beyond that, there's epic dungeons, skirmishes, and so on.

Sounds like you are in Whispering Caverns. After that, the game kinds lets you off the rails to do what you like. Sharandar would be next stop for solo type content. However, if you like to group you'll be able to join in for epic dungeon crawls. Be aware however that all the epic dungeons have minimum gear score required for entry. A full set of blues with enchants should be more then enough to get you entry into the tier 1 dungeons. You'll need a bit more for tier 2.

Level 60 --> Kill redcaps over and over again in the Sharandar campaign to unlock boons and areas and wait hours in Protector's Enclave for a dungeon queue to pop up only to be then placed into a group that is not able to control the adds at the first boss fight.

That is basically what you can do unless you have lots of time and are comitted to guild play. Then your day by day gameplay will be: Farm the first bosses in CN for rings or run through dungeons without a lot of fighting, dying a lot and respawning at some campfire further within the map and bugging end bosses so you can finish a dungen in the least time possible. While this will ruin any fun in actual playing you might gear your char up very fast, although you basically don't need the uber gear anyway because the main thing you do is bugging dungeon bosses and running through dungeons and dying a lot there anyway. And in the free time you have between dungeon runs you will just smash some bugs in PVP with your unbalanced class and the uber gear you have acquired during bugging all the dungeon bosses.

The gear question has already been answered. Exp points still count towards leveling companions but do not effect your toon at that point.

The real game starts at 60. Time to gear up and gain power.

I'll add that it's not required to do whispering caverns to move on.

Feel like I have reached complete end game myself... only dungeon I feel motivated to run is CN only since I can earn AD...
PVP pug becomes boring since I either stomp the pug or get stumped by some Premade
This game is really getting boring I have nothing better to do beside new zone daily or PVP daily.

You can work to get your Professional Empire up and lucrative.

You can work to get your private Army of Companions trained up.

You can work to acquire one of every mount for your Stable.

You can work towards getting second and third sets of Gear for different encounter types.

You can work to collect Runestones and Enchantments, to get them maxed out, for yourself and your companions.

You can work on getting Dyes and Fashion Sets to give your character a more unique look.

You can work to find different items to transmute your existing items to look like.

There is a lot to do, if you open your eyes to the possibility. But most of them take time, which many of the "I must be 60th level and have everything in a week" crowd will never understand.
