All,
I have read in this forum that the Deflect stat for CWs are pretty much worthless, yet I was chatting with a GWF player the other day and he swore up and down that Deflect was even superior to Defense and he was shocked that I had zero Deflect. So could someone explain why Deflect isn't good for CWs? Has there been any testing on Defense vs. Deflect as a core defensive stat for CWs?

Well, for GWFs Deflect is awesome because Dex is one of their secondary attributes and they have feats to boost it. CWs have neither. I go Radiants for HP and regen from HV set. Seems the best defense for CWs.
Defense and deflect are 2 completely useless stats for a CW just stack life... Radiants on all defense slots dont waste your money on azures or silverys

So I should reduce my defense as well? Right now my defense is at about 1.7k and I feel it's a bit low.

It's actually a bit high if you have High Vizier, which is a cornerstone for both PvE and PvP, because it means you slotted for it against HP which is the better choice.
I don't yet have High Vizier. I have the Champion Mage gear.

I've seen people recommending around 2K defense without HV, 1K with it. I think these are good values to aspire to. If you are planning to get HV (it's not that hard, took me about 2 weeks of T2 farming during DD), then you should see things in advance to not waste enchants. If you want to stick with Champion gear, which already has lots of HP, then bringing defense to 2K seems a wise thing to do. Or, you can get even more HP The pesky Lashing Blade gets you for 10K even on a low GS rogue, and there's no escaping it with below 25K HP if you face a geared one...
I used to think deflect is good
Having 10% of deflect is good enough for CW so u might get lucky deflect some big number
I realized now it is not worth it on cw since u can not stack it anyway.. go HP all the way. It works with my current regen build as well.
I've been wandering about stacking deflect for a while now, but didn't have any stats to drop for it.
I'm suprised by some of the comments about not needing defense.
Personally I am running 2K defense plus the HV set, and definetly like it.
Not that uncommon to take hits from adds during boss fights, and the defense helps a lot.
I found my time a lot easier with 1.7k defense over 1k defense on my HV - it is easy for groups to slip up, and when they do it's nice not to immediately die.
Definitely considering trying life-steal instead, but no idea how much I will need to stack to make it worth-while. I guess it really depends on what else you are trying to stack and what is available to wear.

Life steal is your best friend especially if you are doing AoE control spells and throwing the aoe storm pillar down. Sudden Storm makes a nice burst heal and so does chill strike on tab. I have been using it in PVP and the gear i use for it actually dorp my GS to a 10.4 but my god I can live through quite a bit.

PvE: pure Defense or Defense and Lifesteal.
PvP: high level PvP (premades vs premades) - HP and regen. Low level PvP (pugs) - best "defense" is strong offense.
While Deflect is useful even in relatively small amounts, it is the best alternative only if you have a whole build dedicated to it, e.g. a Halfling with high CON, high DEX, Deflect accessories and Greater Tenebrous enchants for sufficient offensive capability.
I have faced several CWs who had all of the above but not Greater Tenebrous (only normal Tenebrous) and decimated them with my pure offense build and they did no better than me against melee. So, that is why I suggest you cannot go halfway with a defensive build around Deflect on a CW.

.
This.
In PvE most things don't have much AP so you get value for money from you def. And you do a stack damage so LS is a realy winner. In PvP you probably take a similar amount of damage to what you dish out (similar, not same oh pedants from the future), so lifesteal is pointless. Regen is $$$ tho. Since everyone packs a load of AP, there's no point having any def at all really in PvP. Might as well stack up on HP.

For PVE: defense/HP.
You get defense from HV. So maybe 1k is enough I think.
For Pvp HP/regeneration maybe?
You should put HP to your character and the defense to your augment if you can.
