That means unless you upgrade the companion to purple, you won't get access to it.
anyone upgrade the cat or the ioun stone of allure to epic? is there any real value to doing that?
While I have not personally, there are topics discussing this. Short answer is no. Long answer is no, because you gain about 30 pts in stats for the cost of 750k AD.

I upgraded the stone to purple on the test server. You gain 35 points in the three stats and that is it. It is less of an upgrade than a rank 5 enchant (105 total).

Yes, and yes.
It depends on what you have already.
The next upgrade for me in terms of acquiring my optimal/ideal set (which includes "Epic augmentation pet") costs way more than 750k AD, so this was actually the cheapest upgrade available.

Basically you shouldn't be looking at upgrading your cat/stone unless you already have at least Rank 5 enchants, as that that would be more cost-effective. If you're already rocking Rank 7s and higher, then it would be cheaper to upgrade your cat/stone than to get Rank 8-10s.

What are you talking about? The upgrade from blue stone to purple doesn't change your enchantments, it only affects the augment pet's base stats (the stats without any slotted items), which as mentioned above totals out at 105 extra points (i.e. negligible). So no, under no circumstances upgrade your stone or cat, unless of course you have diamonds to burn.

If you hover the cursor over the upgrade companion tooltip for the cat it says that you get a 4% rating bonus so to be honest unless you are a total min/maxer it isn't probably worth the idiotic 750k price tag.

I think he is talking about the fact that if you are rocking R8 enchants and you want to upgrade to R9, then you would need to spend like 1M to do so? In doing so you upgrade like 60 stat points. If you upgrade the stone, u get more than 60 stat points so it is "cheaper" to upgrade the stone than it is to upgrade to a R8 gem? Make sense?

I upgraded my ioun stone, but quite frankly - it is not worth it unless you have basically run out of upgrade option.
If you have rank-9 enchants, it is going to cost an arm and a leg to upgrade those to rank-10 ... upgrading the stone might actually be the cheapest option available to get a few extra points, but if you are not in this situation...forget it.
I was considering getting this companion for my Guardian Fighter, but you're saying it's not good for solo play?
It is terribly good for lvl 60 epic dungeons ... No other companiOn type is viable. Solo I like to play with the other kinds but I find solo it is all negligible.

This is true, but with DR you really get almost nothing for your AD. If you already have rank 8 or higher enchants you should be well above the soft cap on pretty much everything that matters and the change would be so small that it would be impossible to measure.
From personal experience that particular companion is dreadful for solo play.
From my personal experience it is wonderful for solo play, with my GF. I guess it varies depending on your character type, or how the character is built. Also, the level 30 ability looks quite nice on the Acolyte.

It works wonderful for me in solo and duo play with one of my GF, so it may be on of those mileage may vary things. Just make sure to load it up with lots of life steal..

But 750K AD to upgrade? Can't see me ever spending that. Others may see it as a worthwhile use of their hard earned.
