Question about F2P

So people are saying this is F2P since you can just farm AD and get ZEN from exchange right? But what if no one in this game bought ZEN, ever, how do we exchange the AD to Zen? Does that option exist?

If it doesn't, doesnt that mean a lot of the stuff we can get with ZEN only become not available for AD only players?

Could be wrong, but that isn't F2P model. So yeah, my question, how can we acquire ZEN if players don't buy it to exchange it for AD?

Thanks!

It is F2P. You can play for free as you don't need any of the zen item stuff.

And obviously F2P games do need someone paying for the game, one way or another. Otherwise they couldn't continue development. So if everyone stopped buying zen then the game would die.

I like the model of cosmetic stuff or non essentials being money, but not bags, respeccing, additional characters, etc. But yeah, can you grab that stuff if players didn't buy Zen?

Bags, respec, additional characters are not required to beat the game. They only make it easier to play or faster to beat. Free to play just means that you can finish without spending anything. I would like to see bags more easily available because 3 bags fill fast, but it just means I have to be better about inventory management.

If you don't buy zen yourself, don't exchange AD for Zen, or buy it off the AH from others who bought with Zen (where that applies), then no, you can't get most of that stuff. And like I already mentioned, if everyone stops buying zen for this game then the game will die.

But that's the beauty of it. People who can and do spend money use it to buy Zen, without which they couldn't get large sums of AD (ignoring packs). People who don't have the money to buy Zen can trade their AD to people who want AD but have only Zen. It's reciprocal this way. While I'd like certain prices in the Zen store to be lower like many other people do, I don't see any problem with the general set-up.

How to test if a game is F2P: Do you need to pay any money in order to create an account, log in, create a character, and play+ the game? If the answer is no, then it *is* a F2P game.

+ By "play" I mean participate in the game's content to a significant enough degree to be able to reach max level, and to do so by utilizing level appropriate content (for your character).

Back when the game was first released that was the case everyone had AD due to stipends and no one had any zen. occationally someone would buy zen and get like 500 ad for each. so its a supply and demand market really.

but most of the stuff in the zen market is optional its a lot of cosmetics dyepacks pets and mounts with a few chance objects.
and some basic services that a lot of games charge real money for anyway like character slots, extra bank and pet slots.

you CAN play 1-60 just fine without ever spending a single ad/zen there are mounts and pets on sale for gold. and enhancements/id scrolls/crafting objects do drop in game.

like in any FTP game its free to PLAY not free to totally have every item instantly with no grinding. games like this are funded by the greedy, the vain, and the impatient. I fall into the vain category myself.

**** at least your honest. :)

    the rich subsidize the f2p.

edit: let me add typically they do. In this game if you got in early. OR got lucky abusing exploits and didn't get banned. You could be rich too!! (ingame rich - whatever that amounts to)

Lets just speed this whole thing up shall we.

OP presented a highly leading question backed by a insanely improbable hypothetical question. In the hope that someone would be forced to say "Well if no one buys Zen, it MUST be P2W or not really F2P." Thereby starting a discussion that can only end in a thread lock due to forum rules.

Seeing as how no one has taken the bait yet. I figure its just best to cut to the chase. Get to the real subject the OP wanted to discuss and speed up the closure and put an end to this entirely far to hypothetical silly discussion.

Not really, I just wanted to hear from others. I thinkt he best reply was from bioshrike "Do you need to pay any money in order to create an account, log in, create a character, and play+ the game? If the answer is no, then it *is* a F2P game."

As for angry pants sockmunkey, calm down lol, I'm at work so I can't always be on :D

I just wish stuff that's not cosmetic like bags and respecs weren't so pricey :(
