Endgame for PVE?

Can anyone advise what there is to do for PVE advancement at end game?

I've just hit 60 and it appears that if you want to PVP there are some new passives you can earn, otherwise it's just another MMO gear grind as far as I can tell. I've talked to all the NPCs just like the Lord Protector said and they essentially said 'epic dungeons, gear, make foundry quests or PVP' the first two of those of course amount to the same thing, the last one I can't stand and the foundry option doesn't help me advance MY character. I've been to sharandar and there's lots of gear rewards. There are boon rewards from sharandar (PVP) battlegrounds... so again, nothing I can see that I'm interested in.

I'm hoping I've missed something - is there really nothing else for PVE players? Epic abilities of some kind, or something that feels like further character advancement?

I'm not even a little bit interested in PVP, and improving gear in MMOs doesn't feel like advancement to me, it feels like a waiting game + crapshoot because you're basically just killing stuff and hoping the RNG drops you the items or collectibles you need to get the items.

If i haven't missed anything, first off: boo! yet another lazy unimaginative MMO end game! DDO does it better. Second: any devs happen to read this - I would really appreciate some post-60 character advancement.

A rep-based PVE accessible boon system would be a great start. Although only a start, because rep is of course just another kind of grind, but:
a: it's a predictable progression which helps (you get it for completing stuff, it's not randomly assigned which I find completely demoralising) and
b: it feels far more linked to the 'world' than just waiting for drops, and
c: the benefits affect your character not their equipment.

The point is, when i hit cap I don't want my "advancement" to stop even though I've stopped earning XP and there are no more 'levels'. Hitting cap should be the start of endgame advancement. You shouldn't really be left with only a gear grind to do until you've at least earned some new special abilities, passives, funky titles etc. Some of these can be prerequisities for others, it may start to get too hard to progress unless you also grind for some gear... but it shouldn't be just 'gear and PVP'.

If I have missed something (please say I've missed something)... can someone explain what I'm supposed to be doing at endgame?

TL; DR - if I don't want to do PVP or grind gear, am I basically stuck with rolling a new character and working up to 60 again or going off to build foundry quests?

Cheers

There is a rep system, it's called 'Campaign' here and it will reward passive, permanent stat boosts.

Also the game is still rather new and only had one content update so far, tell me other MMOs that had the kind of post level-cap progression aside from gear that you are refering to at launch...

It will come here too in an update or two (and probably guild housing too similiar to STO's fleet bases), and then people will whine that it takes so much time they can't keep 10 alts maxed out at the same time too >_>

Thanks for this. I've just discovered the campaign system which does appear to mirror the boon system somewhat. So that's better than it first appeared, but possibly needs a bit better on screen explanation if you're the sort of person like me who generally avoids 'dailies' because that generally indicates 'grind' - I did the first dailies out of lack of something else to do and was directed back to Sharandar to hand in... at which point the campaign system became a lot clearer. Could have done with that in game explanation a bit earlier really to keep me interested.

Re 'name another MMO that had more at launch'. I do understand where you're coming from and at launch (well, after first expansion technically) most MMOs do not have much in the way of end game. That's fine, I do accept that end game isn't going to be fully featured this close to original launch. I was just hoping for something 'different': a gear grind end game is just cookie cutter. Its like a default setting, and it's unimaginative, and that's what I didn't like - I just was hoping for something a bit different.

As it happens the campaign setting IS quite different, so I'll explore that. Its not amazing, because the boons are fairly 'meh', but at least you can PVE and see some advancement.

    Suggestion for boon enhancements:

Boons which affect or proc on use of at will, encounter or daily powers (e.g. a boon which reduces the cooldowns of all encounter powers by 1s, or use of a Daily now regenerate x% health, and so on)

Boons which grant new powers based on your class (there would need to be a choice of these to ensure they didn't just become 'must haves' and further the cookie cutter problem this game has).

Boons which affect team mates (+1% recovery to all, etc)

That kind of thing. The boons as far as I can tell are basically uninteresting - e.g. +200 Recovery, or 1% action gain, etc.

    Just suggestions.

Oh and again in case a Dev is reading - the feywild is pretty. Well done :)
