I was actually kind of excited when the re-publishing of all Foundry adventures took place following the "Feywild" patch. All of a sudden, the "Review" tab was filled with new quests that might qualify for the "Early Access" achievements! YAY! And, for the first time in a long time, many of those "Review" adventures look like they can actually be completed based on the reviews. And even bigger YAY!
After all, as anyone who has worked on this achievement knows, a LOT of time is wasted playing through new "Review" tab quests only to discover that you can't finish, you can't review it, and you can't count it toward the achievement. There is virtually NO reward for the effort spent doing this, and it makes it a pain to contact the Authors outside of the review system to let them know where they quests are broken.
Ah... but now! Now there are all these new possibilities!
So I diligently played through lots and lots of quests to
finally that "Early Access II" Achievement for reviewing 25 beta quests...
...only to discover that the Early Access III Achievement was next up... with an unbelievable 100 quests needed. Seriously? 100? That's potentially 30-50 hours of playing through unfinished and often unplayable user-generated content... and all we get to show for it is a lousy t-shirt?
(Wait. What? We don't even get a t-shirt? Oh. Well, at least all that work will count toward being able to wear the next rank of our Foundry Cloak, right? What's that? We still can't change the appearance of our neck items to reflect our Foundry Cloaks? The cloaks have to continue to gather dust and take up room in our bank accounts because they haven't made neck pieces capable of taking on a custom appearance? So... we get... what? Basically nothing for finishing 100 Beta quests? It's all just altruism? Not that I have anything against altruism, mind you, but... ya know...)
Okay. I'm getting off my soapbox. I promise I wont' rant anymore. At least, not today.

So you can imagine my disappointment to discover that I'm only 1/4th of the way there... *sigh*
(PLEASE tell me there isn't a 1000 goal Achievement beyond III, right?)
good to see you are still around, tilt
Another way to look at it as drawing ideas from other authors is a great way to improve your own authoring.
Just as the best novelists are all heavy readers of other people's work.
The more you read the better your writing will be. Proven fact.
So I guess the more you play Foundry Missions, in some ways the better your own content will be?
At least that's my more positive way to look at it.
I think he was referring to having to play quests that cannot be finished. I played one quests that had it been completed probably would have been the best quest I have played. The author put the damb chest behind a wall for whatever reason. It really was a good quest. I don't recall what it was called though. It was set in an alien world and I had to run across some pipes. What I thought was great though as that you really had to think about the route. To just walk straight was death.
So you have a good point.
But hundreds of quests? There's only so much inspiration someone could need. Positive spin or not, this is a grind that is needlessly holding authors back from reaching their potential, either in terms of achievements or in terms of actual quest creation.
Was that the one with machinery, a gas works or something, and you had to enter four equidistant work cages to fix the darn thing? If so, I agree, it was an awesome quest.
@authors. None of the player achievements have any 'reward' other than the 'I did that' factor. At least as far as I know.
I think it was yes. It was really, really, really hard, I remember that.
Edit: Actually, I'm pretty sure it was. You could fall through if you fixed it wrong I think. I must have died like 10 times.
(I use a 'fresh' character for Early Access, specced/ geared towards survival, myself, and only pick up those quests that have at least one run through.)
I'm also quite late this 'party' as my Early Access achievement was bugged (did not update).

You eventually get both a unique companion and mount through the author achievements, but you also need community achievements to get these.
Yeah, that was my point - you do get something tangible, besides giving back to the community.
And giving back is how I try to see it but, as Saerrael points out, the amount of exploit quests along with the amount of quests that are deliberately impossible to complete, makes it very hard going.
