Seriously guys, the lockbox situation is getting silly.
I'm getting way more Feywild's than I ever did Nightmare's. It seems now like almost every other kill gives one.
I know you need us to buy Zen and believe me I do, but on a good weekend's play I'd be looking at forking over 90 euro's just to open them all. 52 weekends in a year - do the math!
I do agree that it is a little over kill with the drop rate tho. It's kind of like taking a kid to the candy store and telling them to pick out all the free candy they want! Then telling them they can't open it....
Im fairly positive that the boxes drop on its own table. A box dropping dose not mean its taken the place of some other loot. You loose nothing by getting one. So just trash them and move on. Its not likely to change so its not really worth stressing over.
There was a change recently, that made it so lockboxes would drop from minion level mobs, as well as normal/elite level. This has lead to an explosion in the number of lockboxes that drop.
I have to agree with some that its a little too much, and I hope that the devs adjust it somewhat. Previously, getting a couple of lockboxes here and there, made me tempted to buy a key to open it, but now when I get 20-40 a day on each character, which just makes me feel like I'm being swamped with them, and in turn, less likely to buy keys.
*shrugs* Oh well, at least as other people have said, they don't step on any other part of the loot table, so its not that big of a deal.
The current rate is about the rate they drop in STO and CO, at least it's not as bad as when STO accidentally applied the drop box loot tables to destructible projectiles.
this is technically gambling system. Which i thought was illegal in most states anyway. They are pumping them out to increase idiots into buying more keys plain and simple. Its called micro transactions its how a F2P game hooks you into spend alot more money then a sub game.
I just sell them on the auction house.
I will never spend another dime on this slow death of a game. Well unless some freak act of nature and the game gets fixed and becomes the game it should of been from the start.

Technically it's not classed as a gambling system as for it to be a gambling system there needs to be a non-zero chance of getting nothing. As the lockbox will always give something, (although the value of the item is debatable) it gets around most of the gambling laws.
I am shocked because this is the second thread about the same issue and in both threads it seems like the OP feels the need to open the boxes. I read about how this tactic is used to generate money in F2P games (You just won something epic, spend some money to claim it) but I really never thought it actually worked. When I see a lockbox I instantly think it is just more trash but apparently others must really see this as a chance to get something wonderful and they feel compelled to buy keys to open them all.
Warning.... an opinion follows....I think the old lockboxes were a bad investment and I really feel the new ones are even worse. Almost everything in the new lockboxes is worthless so your chance of seeing a return on your investment is really slim. The mount, companion, and idol are the only things worth any money, all the rest is trash. The relic fragment's price has dropped to 20k and will drop severely once most players are through Feywild. All the enchantments from the new box sell for almost nothing. There are no wards in the enchantment/runestone chests so every time you get one of these it is an automatic loss of money. Very few people are doing the new professions so the value of the profession pack has dropped. IF I was going to open a lockbox I would open a nightmare one instead.

And I used to think that the flashing lights and noises on slot machines attracted nothing but little kids. Believe it or not, there have been several thousand dollars of research pumped into this sort of thing by both MMO companies and the gambling industry as well as scientific research (in one test a lab rat was given a button that dispensed food, so long as the food always came out too a set pattern of pushes it would push only for food when it was hungry, when it was randomised the poor mouse would push until it was exhausted), As well as other experiments into human nature involving prizes (Derren Brown's Trick or Treat season 2 finale is a prime example of this).
I usually just leave them on the ground (though the auto-pick-up can be be touchy and I get them anyway).
It's actually hilarious to see the virtual country side utterly littered with abandoned drop boxes. Immersion-breaking, too. But when you look back and see how many are there laying around... well. hahahah.
As was said before: When fewer of them were dropping I was tempted to buy keys (and I did). Now that they are falling like flies = meh. I just let them stack up. Then when I sell stuff to vendors I clear them out with a single click. It's not a big enough deal to complain about when there are other, bigger issues to be concerned about.
I have never opened a single lockbox, ever.
I bought a purple mount when they were on sale for $25, and it is available for every character, current and future.
I successfully sold every Nightmare box before they expired, so far in 2 weeks or whatever (?) I have not sold a single Fey box. They are simply worthless. I have like 20 stacks of them in the AH sitting there forever..
