I can understand your need to complain about prices when they are forcing you to buy stuff... oh wait.
really? Although I expected be trolled because I am on the interwebs, I do find their price points to be too high. I would probably be willing to spend $20.00 for a bada$$ mount (like a digital deluxe type of upgrade), but $40.00 for a make believe car is a bit to much from my point of view.
Exactly, companions, mounts, dye packs. All these things cost to much. Yes they need to recoup money spent on DEV.
But if they want a Long term investment prices need to fit our real life economy. Mommy and daddy are not going to support this game, hard working people like my wife and I and those single adults will. And we do not have The disposable income we use to. Give real value and it has been proven that the gaming community will support you. For Christ sakes we Gamers will bleed ourselves dry if we feel like things are fair. How do you think Lucas and WOW made the money they did. Be smart and this game could be profitable for years to come.
I'm not really bothered by the mount prices, and here's why.
1) they are account wide, and can be used on every character you make, once those characters reach level 20 and are eligible for mount usage.
2) for simple basic utility, there are mounts as low as $5 US (500 zen), even though those are the slowest mounts. that isn't much, and saving up enough AD for that is not a terrible lot of work.
3) the fastest speed of mount is available for $25 US (2500 zen), the stormraider clydesdale horse. a fair bit cheaper than the most expensive ones on there, and again, usable by all characters on the account, no matter how many you make.
4) any mounts that are more expensive than the 5/15/25 for standard horses are only cosmetic upgrades, such as certain colors of horse being a little more expensive, and the non horse mounts being about ten bucks more. I have no problem with special cosmetic changes costing more, as long as usefulness is affordable, which I think they are. needs are more important than luxury, and usefulness is more important than looks.
besides, it makes the company money legitimately, and I would rather see legitimate, above board, honest sales than underhanded dirty tactics and tricks. yes, I know we've seen that here, too, but I'd still like to encourage the good stuff.

Anybody else a little put off that zen is $10.00 per thousand and some of the mounts cost 4000? $40.00 for a mount is a bit much.
Agreed. I can't complain too much because I play but don't pay. I like the necro'd thread only recently shut down, I don't like people assuming "won't pay" = "can't pay". I do well enough thank-you, mainly by being 42 and childless. But I have a keen eye for value for money, and the Zen is not value for money. If it was less than half the price it is now, it would work better I think.
Does Cryptic/PWE want me to spend one to five pounds here and there occasionally, or does it want me to spend zero more often?

I agree with everything you said about mounts except number 2. This is worthless and I'm not even sure why you listed it. You can get a 50% mount in game for 5G or about 10k AD, so even suggesting $5 for a 50% just contradicts your point #4.
Otherwise, I agree...

My main complaint is that I have no option but the "account wide" version of some of the mounts that I want. I can appreciate that for players only interested in mechanical advantage or convenience, $40 for a mount they're going to use across multiple alts over the years could be considered a decent investment, but to me, choice of mount like choice of armor/weapon transmutes is part of the RP process. For example, even though as a Knight of the Feywild, I have access to the 110% speed unicorn across all my characters, in practice I only use it on two and continue to use my trusty 50% gold-bought mounts on the rest - because horses make more sense for those characters. It may seem silly, but it's a barrier to purchase for me.
On the other hand, if there was an option to buy a $5 single-character version of a lot of the store mounts, I would very likely have bought multiples of them by now.
agree. EVERYTHING is too overpriced. I have never been a fan of spending money on MMOs.. for that main reason. Had they dropped those $40.00 mounts to 15 or 20, I would be tempted to spend some cash here and there on items.
And I am sure TONS of people feel the same way. and would be more likely to spend money, if prices were lowered some.
I paid $60.00 for the Feywild pack which brought a Unicorn Mount, Sylph (fairy companion), 600,000 astrals, fashion items and more.
The Unicorn and Fashion items are the only things I found worth it. The Sylph companion sucks and the gear included in the pack I couldn't even use because I already had stuff better than what it brought.
First and LAST time I spend money on NeverWinter unless prices drop.
Mounts, other than to move quickly through the leveling zones or in PvP, are absolutely useless. Most endgame players run dungeons, which renders the mount useless. I could never in my life pay $25-$35 for a cosmetic item. If mounts actually gave bonuses you could use (like deflect or strength or whatever), then I could see spending some money, but real money to run faster is just silly.

for most players, you're right and that works great. I admit, that point was probably better suited to people who play like do. I'm an altoholic who tends to roll a bunch of new characters and level all of them close to evenly. As a result, on my main server, most of my characters are between 20 and 25 still, though I have a couple in mid 30s on the other two servers. I haven't managed to get the 5 gold for an in game horse before level 30ish so far, and I usually only have 1 to 1.5 gold by level 20.
for me, before I eventually shelled out for a stormraider clydesdale, it made more sense to shell out 5 bucks worth of zen to outfit every character with a mount instead of pooling gold for 1, maybe 2 characters and using the slower temp mounts until they ran out on the rest.
I just plain had an easier time, even at that level, making AD than I had making gold, so this was more logical for me as a one time purchase. For others who likely level waaaaay faster than I do (and hell, I think I'm levelling too fast even, just due to this game's design), you are absolutely right.

this is a pointless comment.
and to the OP yes, yes it is way overpriced, cryptic will end up losing money because of their greed.

Agreed. I probably would have bought most of the zen store companions if they were at a reasonable price, but instead I haven't bought any.
