RP in Neverwinter (solutions/discussion)
Dear friends, I really like this game. From the first day as I read about the foundry, I was fascinated about the potential and the countless possibilities it gives to the players. On the other hand, I was always a role player and the union of the d&d license, great game-play (I really like it) and the possibilities of the foundry seemed like a dream coming true.
Now the game is live for some months and after the first euphoria, the role players face really hard times.
In my origin country, the last huge RP guild is giving up now.
There is one main problem in my opinion. No place for role players - originating from the division of the servers in 150 man instances.
I mean, if you start RP with a small 4 man group, you have to get all four players in the same instance first. Ok. But what if a fifth player wants to join later? Maybe he is lucky and there is a place free in the 150 man instance - but if not - the whole group has to switch to a new instance. And if they switch, they are not at the same place but have to run back from the fireplace... And what if a sixt, sevent or eight player want to join? You have to interrupt the role-play every time. Immersion = zero.
This is true for small groups. But how to make bigger events? How to make a meeting of two guilds? Bringing 20 players together is nearly impossible. And the time is running...
I do not know, maybe it is too late, as the momentum of having all the role-players in the game seems over. I hear about a lot of role-players leaving. Maybe nobody cares. It is a pity - as the solution of this problem seems quite easy in my opinion and could be embedded very fast.
Phase One:
The foundry creator can create foundry missions which consist of only one map which:
- has no enemies/encounters (nothing to do for non role-players)
- no rewards (nothing to gain for non role-players)
- has no story plot
- allows only to create a map, place details and npc (and to talk to them, without following a plot)
But:
- allows up to 150 players to join the map!
Different mechanism to join the map.
Every player or numerous groups of players join to the first instance of this foundry map until it is full (150).
When the first instance is full, a second instance would be created (much the same as the protectors enclave).
How to find it?
Add a new category of description beside language, duration etc. Call it - RP foundry - or - Guild Foundry - or as you wish.
I know that most of these maps would be empty for the most time. But this type of a map would be a great feature for all the RP guilds who are looking for a custom place for their RP.
I think this simple feature would add something, that is really missing. An individual place for RP which can be advertised on the websites of the RP guilds. Hotspots of atmospheric, high immerse game-play.
The possibilities of this feature would be nearly unlimited. Just imagine: One guild would build a castle and role-plays its inhabitants, another one builds a library like -Candle Keep -, a small one just a magic tower with a wizard and his students. Imagine an Orc guild with their settlement, imagine a dwarfen clan-hold, imagine a tavern or a theater...
And now imagine that these guilds connect themselves in a huge network. Connecting their resources, visiting each other, making common RP-plots. Imagine: A wizard who is looking for an ancient scroll visits all the libraries and mage towers out there. An actor or performer guild making weekly spectacles and inviting other players. There are no limits.
Of course, you can ask why. There will be no AD or gold rewards, no items to gain, why should we make something like this? We have 2 million casual players, why should we care about the 10 k role players?
The answer is simple. The casual players will leave when they got bored or find a new, better looking game. The role players would make it their home. They could create something unique since the -old, good times- of NWN persistent worlds. And it would make a difference between this game and other MMORPG. It would give the game a stable basis, a unique feature and tie the players even more to this game. It is D&D and not any other MMORPG, if this game will not care about role-players, which will?
Please give the game a soul.
Just my 2 copper pieces...
Please excuse my English, as it is not my native language.
P.S. Phases two and three are also prepared, but I do not think it would contribute much to the discussion to add these wishes at once. They are more mid/long term goals. And in my opinion it is now more important to concentrate the discussion on goals that could be possible to achieve now.

Oh no, was not naysaying you at all, just enhancing the idea is all >:) So it's cool i hope. I've found the best bet when I've rped online within an environment such as text (IRC to be example) it's best a person act as leader/GM so that they can keep tangents or naysayers (not you) from dislodging the fun is all. Like when I've done T1 battle on chat, I make sure there is at least 2 judges or maybe 3 to make sure no one god mod's but that is all improv and what RP is about...not the god modding though.
