Today I pvp'd for the first time since Feywild came out and I noticed something terrible. Before Feywild, with the Gauntlgrym gear I was able to actually tank classes and have them die on my block meter using Shield Talent, Supremacy of Steel, Guarded Assault, and Iron Warrior. (mostly TR and CW). Now I can't even hold off a CW, well enough to get to them and hit them. Its as if I wasn't wearing the gauntlgrym gear at all, or getting any bonuses to Block. Was some mechanic changed or is there a bug going around? Ive been searching the board to see if anyone else noticed this, but have not seen anything. If there is a post with an explanation please let me know.

I have noticed that shield meter seemed weaker right after august 22nd patch, and tried to compensate by spamming iron warrior and enforced threat. Used indomitable champion set like you. I didn't run any software to record the numbers though and sort of can't now because my account just got banned :p but you should be able to get to the bottom of it with a combat parser program and see how much your shield absorbs with and without set bonus.

i barely die in T2s/CN before that 8/22 patch.

and now, I think I die so much easily in SP and MC (haven't tried CN, since nobody needs a GF).

is it just me, are mobs in MC hits real hard or our DR/shield isn't working as intended? yes i've switched from SB to Timeless but I think that's not the issue.

Yes the MC mobs actually have decent auto-attack damage. In CN the mobs hit like wet noodles but the red kills you.

I really like how MC mobs are and actually feels like a real Dungeon. :D

Has anyone got the the bottom of this? I don't see anything in the patch notes about this, but definitely have seen a decrease in block meter much more rapidly. Like Shield Talent doesn't exist anymore or something... Like I said.. I didn't see anything anywhere about this..

I haven't ran a DD since patch, plus I respecced for PVP, so I can't comment on PVE. In PVP, I had to ditch Shield Talent passive to get the dmg I wanted, but it does go down WAY faster when I am actually on the defensive. Being Conqueror spec, we get bonus to power when guard meter is up, so it entices us to not really use it. Actually, I am a really offensive player, so my input is probably not needed. But yes, I agree it seems to drain in less than three seconds. GWF are certainly enjoying that against me!

I too have noticed a significant decrease in the block meter in blocking. I cant quite tell what it may be.

Even in pve. It breaks much more easily. Im not sure if its shield talent feat not working or something wrong with the actual block meter. In Pvp. I can barely block for HAMSTER. A wizard's magic missles gets me down after a few seconds. Used to at least be able to approach a wizard close enough while blocking to get off an ability while blocking magic missles and thier shard of Ice encounter. Now I cant even get halfway there and its broke.

I didnt have such trouble pre-Faywild patch.

I am betting they did this to force GF's into getting the added 10% Guard regeneration Boon from the Sharadar Boon tree.

I have 25 STR for the purpose of having that extra 15% guard meter and always use Tide of Iron. However, I've found myself needing to shield bash after just a few hits post-patch far, FAR more often than previously needed.

While I do not find it overly nerfed, it would be nice if the Devs at least acknowledged it and offered some reasoning why.

Yea definitely feels nerfed. Feels more like original strength block (pre boost they did in a patch months back).

I'm betting they reverted the increased block buffs they did in that one patch some time back. Either by accident by building off a older build, or on purpose to make our stalwart nerf suck even more.

Shield Talent does not help you on very hard attacks. Also the Gauntlegrym set does not. Hard Attacks, like boss attacks, AoEs, player dailies etc. drain 18% of your guard meter. It doesnt matter if you have 100, 110 or 130 guard meter when facing hard attacks. It takes 5.5 hard hits to get your guard broken.

If you are running harder instances than before the patch or face stronger opponents in PvP that might explain why you are running out of guard more quickly then before. Also changing to the Gauntlegrym set and using Shield Talent will not have much impact on how many attacks you can block in many situations.

Edit: Also many defensive GF feats seem to be bugged, like "Armor Specialisation" seems to be not giving +15% more Armor and AC anymore. I don't know if this bug has been around for longer but I noticed it when respeccing after the patch.

I don't know why you say this. I'm currently reduce incoming damage by over 56% and i have only 49,4% DR shown in charsheet.
