What happens if you just put your @handle when trying to send email? Do you get an error or anything?

There is a limit to the number of attachments you can have in the mail at any given time. So if you are using it as a second bank, you probably hit the limit.

okay that worked would been nice if they actual gave an Error

That's good to know. I managed to hit that limit by just emailing myself pots of varying levels and weapons from crafting the new professions.
What does @handle mean? Exactly what should put in the email recipient line?
Every person can name their character drizzit (for example). The game tells people apart by a second part of the name, which they call the @handle (which is a confusing, poor choice of name for it). So, I could be drizzit@joebob, and you could be drizzit@johnsmith, and someone else can be drizzit@marysue, and so on.
Every account has an @handle, and it is account wide. So if you put in (drizzit@joebob) it would go to ONLY my drizzit character. If you put in (@joebob) then I could open the mail with ANY of my characters.
To mail to yourself, then, put in your @name in the to line. Any of your characters (even the one sending it) will see it and can open it.

(so I had to sell it, convert AD to zen, convert zen to AD on the other server, and buy one, which is a bit lossy)
