GWF - New life for spinning strike?

I just finished reading the patch notes, and I'm excited to see improvements to Spinning Strike. I never used this daily because it was sub-par, but with its DPS more than doubled and its speed and range looking better, it could potentially become a good crowd-killer for packed mobs - just in time with Slam becoming less useful in that role.

I'm not a big theorycrafter, so I'm not sure immediately how it could be optimized. What builds and feats could make best use of it? When would you use the new Spinning Strike?

I doubt it will be better than slam, because you cannot also attack with your at-wills while spinning. You can still attack while slam is active. Spinning gives the nice bonus of deflection/immunity while spinning or something, if I recall, so you can continue doing AOE damage while taking very, very little yourself. I doubt it will do enough damage on its own, though.

That Daily is horrible and they should seriously just stop working on it. Last Class Update they added that CC Immunity to Spinning Strike and no one ever used it this update they lower the duration but make it hit a bit harder, still no one will use it.

I did take a look at the Passives before the server downtime, and there was one that said "Whenever you Deflect and attack, you deal 400 damage to the attacker." That was above the last two: Elven Tranquility for example. So, that sounds nice when combined with auto-deflect from Spinning Strike. Just saying it could work, and I'll be happy to test it out. :)

I wonder if the 400 damage is subject to modification by Power and weapon enchants, or if it's a flat 400. If it gets an extra 200-500 from Power and procs weapon buffs, that would definitely not suck.

Looking through the Sentinel feat tree, I found Defiance, which at 5/5 gives +25% threat and +25% Defense to both Slam and Spinning Strike. If Slam is becoming more situational, pairing it with Spinning Strike as your second daily would allow a Sentinel GWF to continue to get mileage from Defiance. I've never looked at Sentinels much, though, so I don't know how useful that feat was to begin with.

New Spinning Strike still does way less damage than old Slam(due to Slam being fire and forget). If they wanted to make Spinning Strike worth using they should have doubled the overall damage and cut the duration by half, quadrupling its dps...at least.

As it is, Slam is now ****ty and Spinning Strike is still ****ty. Other classes have awesome dailies that change the course of battle, GWFs have...pretty much nothing left. Except maybe Crescendo for PvP, but other classes have better single target daily nukes as well(Ice Knife is what Crescendo wishes it could be...single hit spike, fast cast, at range, on a controller class lol) and Rogues top that with an encounter power...

This is what I don't get about GWF dailies and encounters. CW and TR encounters feel powerful. CW and TR dailies feel even more powerful. GWF encounters and dailies, on the otherhand, don't feel powerful. They feel like at-wills with some extra survivability tacked on, with dailies having even more survivability than encounters. Cryptic says we're an AoE DPS class, but it feels more like a tank class without any threat tools.
