i couldnt believe the amount of potions we drank just to stay alive.

at low level, only use a few times when fighting end-zone bosses, now these higher level "trash mobs" are hitting bit hard and wasting away my supply of health potions.

i really hate those lizard shamans when they use "poison gas" aoe effect, they are very deadly and takes lot of hits to kill. they feel like "tank wizards". they are isnt easy to avoid when running around to avoid red target spell rings and they cast fast.
they are cash sink and potion wasters, if i go broke and i may cant buy anymore potions, loots are junks and not even trade-offs and too low for investments.
i think cryptic is making "anti-farmimg" method.

either lower the prices of potions, or add few more loots, or increase value of "treasure loots".
5 coppers a piece??? get out of here!!!

Are you really running out of gold? I haven't had that issue on my characters, even when going through times of substantial potion chugging.

I never came close to running out of gold on even my first character which as a GWF when they were incredibly weak.

One tip someone gave me that helped a lot though was that you can purchase weapons for gold from the weapons vendor in the Seven Suns market in Protector's Enclave. You can get other upgrades too, but the weapon is the most important by far as it directly affects how fast you can kill enemies which reduced the damage you take.

You are doing something wrong. The boss instance in that area (scalefather) is very tough but the trash mobs should not require you to use any potions at all, for any class. I have played all the classes thru that zone and you should almost never use a potion, and if you do, you should end up with net "potion profits" as you should find more than you use.

speaking of potions... they ARE your money loot. By this time you should soon (if not already?) see the next to highest potions dropping which are I think 1 silver each. A stack of tidespan etc pots at the vendor is huge money.

your basic cleric companion should be more than enough healing to avoid potions. If you are using something else, you need life steal or regen or both. My GWF for example has over 13% life steal and uses a ioun stone, but he stays full health. My wizard has regen and heals up between fights and stays at about 85% health (regen effects cannot get you back to max quickly, it heals a % of your current damage, so think of it as trying to get across the room but only going 1/3 of the way each step). It heals a good 600+ when she is injured though.

What class are you? Some classes need to pick specific skills to handle specific mobs. For example, a wizard in that zone makes good use of the short rectangle lighting attack --- as soon as the 3 or 4 lizards teleport onto you, you kill them all with that... without it, it can be tough to handle that type of enemy. As for the shaman, he is tough for a GF, but a GF should have the health to take a few hits... ??

This. Using a cleric companion, I rarely need to use potions...

I leveled all 5 classes to level 60 and I rarely used potions. All my characters finished with about 50 gold at level 60. The only character I had to use potion was my cleric because of their 40% penalty to self heals.

My DC uses so many heal potions he should join a 12 Step program. But he also used a tank pet, not the cleric pet.

I switched to the cleric pet around level 40 when the tank pet was no longer viable. I almost broke down and bought the purple tank pet on Zen store to see if it would make a different but by then I was almost level 60. DC is the only class I thought felt a little under powered in PvE above level 50. But that could have been due to my failure to find a good spec/power combo. However, below level 35 DC was the easiest class to play I thought.

All the other classes were pretty easy to level to 60. You just have to find a good spec/power combo that works for you and rinse and repeat to level 60.

My TR hurt a bit when he reached ebon downs because of the hoardes of zombies because I had spec'ed him single target exclusively but once I adjusted things were alright.

I agree, cleric is toughest to play solo, and 40-59 can be difficult. There were times in the last couple of areas when I would get my companion to take damage from traps etc so I could heal it to recover AP so I could use the big fire bomb on every major pull.... this was pre-nerf braindog packs mostly.

Anyway, if you want to tell us what class you are having trouble with, maybe someone can help. Odds are an overlooked encounter power can even the odds in your favor...

Problem I found with cleric is even though your AoE's are super powerful, your squishy and all the mobs get to hit you once on pull before you let off your big AoE's and that forces you to use a healing potion almost on every pull. Before level 35, that's not so bad, but 35 and up mobs start to hit hard. At least CW have the shield that repels when mobs gets too close.

Mind you, DC have an AoE repel as well when they use their divinity.

The Lizard Shamans are tough, but I suspect that you need to work on playing a little better. I've never said that before, but to be blunt: I just went through that zone, and though I used potions liberally in the boss battles, I didn't have to use them on non-bosses.

That said, the main reason I think that you probably need to analyze your play a little bit is... well... compared to most players, I suspect that I'm... well... terrible! I pick my skills ad hoc, based on what seems like fun, I never analyze my build or buy better equipment - so if I can do it, it's probably doable. I'm a GWF, if that makes any difference.

Forgemaster's Flame and Astral Shield kept my cleric topped off when leveling; before that I had to use potions but once I got forgemasters I'd just find an enemy to heal off of.

Other classes have to drink potions (usually one every few fights) if I don't use the cleric pet, which usually means I'm leveling my Phoera or something. Basically, archer mobs there's no way to avoid taking damage from, and the melee minions that teleport to you and hit you once instantly. The tougher enemies you can theoretically dodge everything they do but in reality they'll get a few of their smaller hits in.

Oh, and gold income goes WAY down at 60 because of the freaking greater identify scrolls. Specifically, the way they're not worth using, which means a level 58 green item is worth 9.8 silver, and a level 60 green item is worth 1 silver (unidentified).

just hit 49 lvl earlier today, opps, sorry i played Guardian Fighter and using Pheora, it just recently level 19.
couldnt get that purple healer, that RGN hates me and loot drops become fewer except those 5 copper junks, there no way to recoup the cost.
maybe i took wrong paragon skills? i took middle route, which is suppose to handle horde of mobs.
i seem to like crit hit and regen gears the most.
i have been soloing since started few weeks ago and still not in any guilds, so i dont have anyone train me.
    home server is dragon shard.

is there any pages that shows armor gear set ups and types of bonus defenses and damages to look up? i think i am still clueless.

You`re playing a GF, and still having a hard time? This is going to sound stupid, but I don`t mean it to come off that way. I`m just curious...

    You are blocking, right?

    My best advice?
If you don't have anything in particular invested in this toon, then consider shelving him for the time being and starting a new one.
My first toon, TR, quit trying right about where you are, for the same reasons.
My third toon, CW, made it through (all the way to the end of the Solo game), but with considerable difficulty. I had the same problems, but had improved enough that they were manageable.
My fourth toon, GWF, powered through without much trouble. It wasn't exactly a push over, but it wasn't a hellish death-march to oblivion either.
My fifth toon, a GF, absolutely OWNED the Zone. I only died when I went AFK, got distracted by Real Life, or managed to walk off a cliff while not paying attention to where I was going.
This is the first real Weed Out Zone you will face. Mt. Hottenow (or however it's spelled) is MUCH worse, but other than that everything else scales more smoothly in difficulty.

If you are playing a GF, consider going for the high-offence Path. It's the first one at the top of the page. You get your Defence just by virtue of being a GF and that extra damage REALLY helps. Your final (LVL 50) feat effectively DOUBLES your Power rating.
