Buy an ioun stone and a 110% mount, maybe some dyes or fashion items if you want. Invest the rest in AD. I can make a lot of AD from the AD/Zen ratio fluctuating.
profession packs (the 300 zen ones) are a decent deal IF you are into crafting. I think the healer pet is still in there as well (??).
Keys for lockboxes are a gamble BUT that much zen will open enough to get the green ioun stone pet AND all the junk that you can sell. It is possible to recover most, if not more, than you spent by selling the stuff you do not need. It is also possible to get nothing of any value and lose money, but with that many of them, odds are in your favor for at least breaking even with a pet to the good.
mount, bags, and bank space all have some value. Extra character slots is of some value. A respec token or 2 may be useful to you someday.

This is so not true. Don't waste your money on the gambling packs, figure out what you need and buy it with AD, in the end you will actually get what you want and spend less AD on it.
And healer, haha, maybe at a 0.0001% chance to get that. Heard of people opening dozens upon dozens of packs and no healer.

I agree that it's a waste to buy profession packs to get Lillend. Very rare drop. If you really want that pet, buy it on the AH. Keep in mind it's expensive because it's in low supply/high demand because new. It's not a terrible pet for leveling, but at level cap you're going to want a stone or a cat anyway, so in my personal opinion unless you are a companion collector, it's kind of a waste of money to buy any companion other than a cat or a stone.
Don't waste the zen on a mount unless you are going to PVP.
Your initial investment will get you a stone, 3 bags, 2 character slots with 500 zen left over. You can skip the slots if you are only going to stick with a main and a bank alt. That would leave you 1k Zen. You can sit on that until you get into the game and get a feel for how things work and what you might need.
I would personally only get a mount if I was going to PVP a lot or was going to level multiple toons. other than that the slow horse is perfectly fine. investment wise you cannot go wrong with new character slots if you play things right you can have them pay for themselves with time and a small amount of levelling. Bags are OK but honestly the 3 you get can get the job done just fine I would save bags for last after getting a ioun stone for each toon I wanted to run dungeons with.
There has been a flood of people opening the boxes and currently it probably is better to buy the tools and workers directly, that is a good point. When I was buying them, the prices for workers and tools was quite a bit higher.

2500 for the T3 purple horse mount.
1000 for 4 character slots - that way you can make 1 of each current class and have room for when the next one is announced.
If you're interested in the professions, 3-5 of the 300 Zen boosters will give you a nice head start.
Hold onto the rest or convert it to Astral Diamonds to buy other stuff you may like. While many people suggest buying the Ioun stone, I feel that if you want to play several characters, investing in something like the wererat thief or other blue/purple companions provide a better sense of immersion, and help more while getting to 60. Of course, the 2G white companions can do that too.

Buy a better game or three off Steam.
I'm unhappy and I can't say why.

The things to buy are:
1. 110% Mount (Go with the Epic Horse that is only 2500 -- you also get it on all chars)
2. Ioun Stone - 2000
3. 2 more char slots - 500
Outside of that, everything else can be earned in the game. You can even farm up enough AD to change for the above in Zen, but I would recommend just buying it and saving your AD for everything else.

others are overpriced
Buy a NW expansion pack ?

Purple mount of your choice (expensive, but works on all characters, so a good item).
Bags (be reasonable, you don't need all blue bags, but a couple helps).
Bank slots.
Remainder as AD nest egg.

110% Mount, 2 Greater bagS of holding and Ioun stone if you can.
