While Adventuring in Helms' Hold area I suddenly lost 18,838 astral diamonds at 2:07am on 7/23/13. I did not notice till later when back at protectors enclave. By creating a Inventory notify only chat tab I could see when it happened. I Have no idea why this happened and would like them returned.
Customer service responded with its a known bug please report it as a bug and did not return about a months worth of astral diamonds.
I don't see any reason to play a game with bugs that make you lose so much in game currency that they do not even attempt to replace.

I've had this happen a couple of times, too. But not so much at once. Moving along in a quest, not doing anything involving inventory at all, and suddenly get a message saying something to the effect of 'You lost 5000 Astral Diamonds.'
And yep, it was gone. Almost like I was in some stock market or something that was losing. I had nothing on the AH, so it wasn't some negative purchase bug or anything.
But you know, they can't track it (maybe not technically possible, or maybe they are just too busy or lazy,) so I know they will never give them back.
I know this comment doesn't help your situation, but just wanted to indicate that it does happen, and we probably are not alone. I'll bet it happened to a lot of people who just didn't see the message, and maybe have enough AD that they didn't notice a drop.
The really weird thing... The first time I saw it, I was just riding along on my mount, wasn't even in combat, so inventory + or - should not have even been available.

Let's hope something gets sorted and our AD returned as there must be a load of people having this done and not even noticing, please help Devs/Cryptic/Neverwinter people.

- An AD-Zen transfer, you requested to buy zen for X amount of AD. The AD is lost upon purchase.
- Renaming your companion.
Besides these two, it requires a direct physical interaction from you to lose the AD.
Nuff said
Don't forget placing something up on the AH. That has a fee attached, though you get it back once your item sells.
