Release work in progress or finished product?

This is just a general question I have to the other foundry makers out there. Do you guys release the finished product? or upload the base, then expand on it over time? I am yet to release a foundry, but I am almost done with this one, and am a bit of a perfectionist. I'll put it to you guys?

WIP - and I am a crazed perfectionist tbh. I got my foundry in a "good" state then I started working towards making it perfect. :) I'm still improving my quest every day. It's not like I'm becoming overwhelmed with plays and people can give feedback. If you feel like the ratings you're getting are bad (I for example got trolled a bit with some anonymous ratings but not so bad as to ruin my rating entirely) you can always re-publish it as a new quest when it's "perfect".

I'm improving my quest on an almost daily basis - so if you come back to it after a week or so, it won't be quite the same!

Since the way things work differ so greatly between Foundry Preview mode and Live, I definitely publish WIP fairly often - many times just to validate that something actually works live after prototyping it in Foundry Preview.

Totally this. I spent 3 weeks on a quest in build and test, just to see some of the most important bits fall apart when publishing to live. Unless you have subscribers, nobody will know the quest is out there until you start promoting it anyway. If you do have subscribers, so long as you note at the top of the description that it's not yet intended for play (and possibly prevent its completion to avoid getting reviews on an incomplete quest) it shouldn't cause too much confusion.

Actually, if anyone wants to see a Work In Progress with under terrain Timers, OR handlers and such
I'm working on a new quest called "Under Siege" that is going to be a "Defend the Keep" kind of adventure.

    Some Current Goals:
    • Advancing Siege "army" - Frost Giants, frost goblins, siege weapons
    • Working Catapult/Ballista phases
    • Bridge built over time by advancing army
    • Completed siege tower w/encounter pathing over wall into keep
    • Destructible Keep walls/siege weapons

I'll try and publish it live whenever I update things.
I'll also try and label (have contact explanations for) trigger items and interesting spots.

Things might be messy (Keep walls out of place, incomplete dialogs, etc.). But, if you want to watch a quest with timers and different logic "mechanisms" happening below the terrain, here's an opportunity.

Please leave any questions, comments, suggestions, etc. here:

I always publish and test my quests to make sure they are not broken. However, as much as I like to think that I am publishing a finished piece, it never works out that way. All of my quests have been published several times over, and improved due to reviewers feedback. I do usually put that this is a first draft/new version, etc. depending on the circumstances. So far this has worked out well for me. :)

I like to publish in test mode for my bug hunting/polishing but i don't want anyone else to play them until full release. There are exceptions to this but when that happens i only like to open the quest to 1 or 2 people at most for feedback. Otherwise, i'm a believer in publish for general viewing when the quest is done/polished/bug hunted and in as good a shape as it can possibly be.

There will always be something that comes up, but hopefully things that are reported are minor.

    ;o)
    Thanks,

    Dee

I don't believe anyone would be brave enough to say their quest is perfect before release. Sure we want it to be and in our own eyes things might have played out perfectly but there are a million and one opinions that havent voted yet.

I also don't think anyone should stop re pulishing quests after feedback. Heck look at "Riddles in the Dark" the current featured quest from @lolsorhand. He has still been updated the original one and making improvements.

Also don't forget that the foundry is constantly growing and improving. I intend to republish all of my quests again after the next release as we will have 3d editing and new details etc.. all things which will make my already popular quests look much better.

As long as you have the confidence to take the feedback from people thinking something needs improving then get that work out here for us to test.

I do not think that any Foundry Quest is a finished Product till other people have cast their eyes on it and given it an evaluation.

It helps heaps and never be offended by any remarks - some you may see the sense of it and others just ignore.
