Upgrading Workers in Crafts?

I have been looking at upgrading my workers in Mailsmithing and I can't find out how to upgrade 4 x Assistant Mailsmiths to 1 x Mailsmith.

That is the only upgrade that I can't find in the list of crafting options.

Has that step been left out intentionally or is it a mistake?

The uncommon/rare/epic workers and tools are exclusive to the grab bags you can get from certain missions, the nightmare lockbox and the Z store. This is likely 100% intentional as a way to entice players into spending money on the grab bags. And you only need the grab bag workers to speed things up (though there is a task slot for completing a task with a 100% speed bonus).

You can still complete any task with just the common workers and tools, you just can't get the best results from tiered tasks or much of a speed improvement.

That's not true, for some tasks (many of them on the igher tiers) you need assets that you can only get from the zen store or by buying it from the AH (from people who have spent Zen).

Professions in this game are a joke. Pay2Craft.

I want this class in NW. :o

You can purchase worn versions of every asset for gold at the Profession Vendor in the market. Check the Asset tab before you complain.

The only thing you can't craft without purchasing packs for Zen are the Rank 2 and 3 items. Even then, you can buy the same items/workers from the AH for AD if you'd rather. Even with all your tools made of Mithral (Purple quality) the best chance at a Rank 3 result (needed to open up a Profession Slot) is 60%. And that's with 4 tools all purple, which is the maximum you can slot per item creation on a Rare/Epic.

If you don't care about Rank 2 or 3 items, as WingedKagouti said, you can purchase the Worn Items from the Professions Vendor.

That said, I didn't have an issue with buying packs to get better results. It's a free-to-play game, the company puts things out that you *can* buy with real money but you don't have to. It's all about whether or not it's worth it to you. I have no life and a ton of disposable income, so it was worth it to me to buy Zen to play with. Plus, I'm a crafting ho. I have been in every game I've ever played that has crafting. I find it relaxing.

This. It tempts you with the upgrade options, but they aren't needed unless you are going for the rank 3 results, and besides the epic shirts and pants, there isn't really a reason to worry about it, and you can still craft purple pants and shirts, just not with the gem slot.

i'd rather buy my shirt and pants, they'll probably be the last pieces to get upgraded, but i'm ok with that.

But the question is, can you upgrade 4 x green workers into 1 x blue worker? & if not, why not when everything else is virtually upgradeable

yeah, you can do 4x greens into 1x blue and 4x blues into 1x purple... but you cannot turn 4x whites into 1x green, you only can do 4x lvl 1 whites into 1x lvl2 white and 4x lvl 2 whites into 1x lvl3 white.

well, that is disappointing. that you cannot upgrade the asst's into the green. this game is turning more and more into a zen sinkhole.

Not really, since you don't need green workers for any tasks - everything can be done with (upgraded) white workers.

So don't upgrade them. It just means you'll have a 5% speed bonus instead of 10%. OH NO HUGE ZEN SINKHOLE THERE! Hardly the end of the world.
