Profession Packs; RNG Rant

I realize that this isn't Oprah; everyone can't get all the things. That being said, I dropped 2900 ZEN on a bunch of profession packs/ asset packs today since it was about the only thing on the Cash shop that seemed useful. Just to be clear, I had no delusions of getting the epic companion. I know better than to hope for something that good from chance.

My frustration comes in when I received a single tool (green), 2 blue leaders, several green leaders, and the rest as low quality materials (the majority of these items don't even pertain to my current professions). I understand they are banking on the gambler's addiction to keep players going and all, but in order to keep that alive, you sorta have to throw a bone here and there.

Honestly it took me a while to come around to buying these packs since the RNG here has been really poor for me in the past. To date, I've dropped 6k ZEN (~60)$ on this game (mostly on RNG packs) and have very little to show for it. Not seen an epic of any sort, and very few items that were actually useful to me. I guess that means they win and all, but seems like if they just threw in at least SOMETHING cool, I'd have stayed on to throw my cash wildly into the digital fire.

But I'm just one unsatisfied customer; you got 2 million more to HAMSTER off before you gotta worry. :(

That's why, out of the 10k zen I've spent, none of it has gone into RNG packs nor have I opened any lockboxes, except three asset packs during the alchemy reveal event. It's never worth it.

Change your approach, when it comes to any of the items w/ random rewards - assume you are going to get the worst item the box has to offer. If you are still OK w/ the purchase, then go ahead with it, and if you get something better, thin things turned out better than expected...

I bought 2 the other night for fun to see what I would get. Same as you, I got several crappy items and 2 trade people. 1 green, 1 blue. I was expecting very little and that is what I got. I was able to sell the stuff on the ah for 50k ad. Only lost about 160k ad in the process.. I am glad I didn't purchase more. I don't have/make enough ad/zen to drop 300 at a crack for absolute junk. All I did was confirm my thoughts.. Now they have been confirmed and I won't waste zen on em again. I will stick to buying 10 packs of keys to trade/sell for stuff I can actually use :p

Well now my approach is not to get anything at all, and let them keep the lot. Seems a shame though; you'd think they'd want to entice more spending, not leave folks feeling sour afterwards.

That's kinda my point too. Anecdotal thought it is, the majority of folks I talk to about this feel the same way; no one wants to spend money because they feel it'd be a waste. Hope they can still make their bills with a business model like that.

The best thing to do is turn that zen into AD through the exchange and then buy what you actually want.
Those packs are a waste of money. And I have gone through my fair share because I have that gambling addiction thing.

You should have just converted Zen to AD and bought what you needed instead of relying on RNG. Especially if you weren't after the companion.

I agree. In my case I was just curious, thus only bought two packs. Really though, like others have said, if you don't want the pet, get what you need off of the ah. Much better deal than praying for an epic that you will very rarely get if at all :)

If you knew them zen boxes were a scam with very little chance to get anything of value AND it burned you before, why in the hell would u buy more? It's like gamblers that know the casino is rigged so that you lose more than you can win BUT still spend hundreds or thousands on the slots.
I learned my lesson from playing WOI the other pwe money grab scam game. Now I don't spend a dime on these zen boxes/lock boxes.

    *******, lvl 60 TR.
    Premium Juicebox, lvl 60 CW.
    Pink Exxxtacy, Ranger

There is NO pvp in Neverwinter.

Because I decided to assume the last round was a fluke, and gave them another chance. In the long run, it's a win for me; I keep my money. Sad though since I do rather enjoy some parts of the game, but not sure how they plan to have repeat customers like this.

Well honestly it wouldn't have taken much to make the whole thing worthwhile. One epic asset would have put me over halfway there. Sides, the companion WAS a possibility whether I expected it or not. Just didn't set myself up to be disappointment...at least from lack of companion.

Again, wasn't a matter of NOT wanting the pet, just knew the chances were too slim to really expect anything to come of it. No one is going to be disappointed if they got one; if that's all they wanted, it near guaranteed disappointment.

The Zen store (and the game) isn't really set up for repeat/long term customers. The idea is to continually gain new players who will spend a ton of money before they realize there is no value in what they are buying. If the player quits the game in disgust it is no big deal because they weren't going to buy anything else anyway. Soon they will be able to boast they are 3 million strong even though the servers seem pretty empty considering those 2 million they claim they have are only playing on 3 servers (Yes, I know it is just how many accounts were created and has nothing to do with how many people actually play).

Most of the people who buy Zen use it for gear and enchants. That is what keeps the money rolling in. It would be nice to see them actually add some true value to the Zen store items, but it doesn't seem like it will be happening anytime soon. I would like to help support the game, but they just keep pushing out one useless companion after another. There really isn't much to spend my money on. When the new expansion hits there will be another profession pack offer rolling out to get us to buy more useless junk. The new professions are the same as the ones we already have, useless and overpriced. Except this time I do not see anything of value when they are fully leveled. You will always be able to get a better weapon for less cost on the AH. At least the other professions have shirts and pants. They need to add some sort of a "Upgrade any weapon" ability to make it even remotely useful to level these professions.

It'd at least be nice to have profession specific packs. Pay 300 Zen for a random pack, 400 Zen for a profession specific one. At least you'll get SOMETHING useful for one of the professions you're leveling...
