I've been away for a month or so and I come back and people are using the emote channel for chating. Now I am sort of ticked off that you, Cryptic that is, have decided to not allow people to turn the emote channel OFF. Its annoying to have all sorts of conversations being displayed in this channel and you can do diddly squat about it. Its disruptive when you are trying to have sane conversations in a tab where only you and your guild mates are chatting and all of the sudden there is RP going around in the emote channel. You know what I mean? I like having my own private channels but for some reason these "emote channel invaders" know nothing about creating channels or do not freaking care! So I say give me control to turn it off, because some of us do not care to know who is having role playing fantasies about bedding who or what sort of thing can be done with dwarven women and stuff. Its disgusting and I do not care to start ignoring people because then I would preety much have to block half the players so I can have some sanity!
Accually Haz you should go try to turn off emotes in settings.
emotes and announce cannot be turned of or have their colors changed unlike any other channel I found this out when I went to go color my emotes purple like they are in IRC.
if you make a NEW channel it will have emotes on by default as well
the only way you can have channals without the emote channel is by copying the log channel
and changing the name and contents of it youll be stuck with announce but it can be less obnoxious
emote gets spammy not only because most rpers use emotes as a IC rp channel. but because anytime someone does an emote like sit ...dance...wave facepalm it echos the action in emote. im sorry but if I want people to see "Cheronne sits Noble" I would type /e sit$$e sits $target. in fact that actually makes no sense cause a real RPer would type /e sit$$e sits gracefully on the couch looking at $target inquisitively.
One thing about emote actions coming up -- a lesser-known command is /emote_notext <action>, which has your character perform that action without text coming up in the chat about it. Unfortunately _notext doesn't come up as an autocomplete option when typing, otherwise more people would probably know about it and use it.
My main grief is the fact that RPers do not create their own RP channels and instead missuse the Emote channel to force players around them to live with their fantasies. Often those fantasies de-evolve into twisted manifestations that are kind of disgusting. Not saying all RPers are the same, but some are. I could give examples but I'd get banned in an instant if I did. Honestly, no one should be allowed to use the emote channel as a chat, its ONLY for emotes. I just want a command that says em_channeloff or something
