There should literally be some heavy punishments for people that leave pvp matches. People always run in and get their *** handed to them and then leave because they died. Im sick of losing matches. Past 2 matches people have left. One of them I was the only one still there.

It happens and some people apparently don't mind because they are against penalties for leaving. I'm not sure why, unless they are the ones leaving when their team doesn't cap mid 1st.

It doesn't make sense getting punished for leaving a PvP that doesn't force me to stay for its crappy and worthless rewards.

So your saying if PVP had good rewards, punishing you to leave would be effective...

The other way to punish people is punish their e-peen...

Basically sum these two up, and you get

    1) good pvp rewards
    2) a ranking system

Up until recently I never dropped a pvp match, but when my team members decide to go hang out on the upper passes and bridges and attempt to feed their kill score I finally had enough and will quit every match that lacks team players

    ^^ This......

Also while I hate to leave a match if theres a bot Ill leave but not before I at least try but if we get down 500 to double digits there is really no use because were not going to catch up 4 on 5

    So true!!

As an MMO oldie I mainly play PvP in Neverwinter (I'm done with regular PvE after many years). I do so with two lvl 60 characters on two different Neverwinter servers, pretty much 5 to 7 nights a week. I love the Neverwinter game play, mechanics and looks, but the game currently has a PvP matchmaking system and deserting rules that make it pretty much impossible to enjoy PvP game play.

    My experience to date:
    * in at least 65% of all PvP arena games, one or more players desert their team within 5 minutes after start, leaving a completely unbalanced and unplayable situation for the remaining players. As there is no real penalty system for desertion in place, it happens over and over and over.....
    * In addition the matchmaking mechanism itself (it seems to only make random teams of 5 players with not more than two players from the same class) is currently often resulting in very unbalanced team match-ups. This further contributes to players deserting a game after a few minutes.

The impact: it currently is not possible to have a fun night of PvP as a solo player, and I can't imagine this to be much fun in a premade either.

It seems a very easy problem to fix (implement a serious punishment on deserting, and add a few algorithms to your matchmaking system that e.g. take into account experience (number of PvP games played or won) and/or (PvP) gear score).

At lvl 60 my game-enjoyment comes from PvP. The game in its current state does not offer enjoyable PvP. As I love the game I hope this can be mended shortly, so I can keep playing and enjoying Neverwinter.

You know when people aren't leaving matches in a game? When the game isn't a broken mess. Punishment for leaving in the current state of PVP just going to make people stop playing pvp.

Well, if people that are structuraly deserting would stop playing PvP, it would already solve part of the problem imo :D

But I understand what you're saying.

Sigh. Played PvP for several hours this night. Of all matches only one (yes you read correctly: 1) made it to the end with 5 players on both sides. Time to move on....

Folks leave the PvP match when there there is two or three inviso rouges of death with blades that never come out of hiding. What is the point of playing? I enjoy PvP used to love pvp but the inviso rouge blades of death builds on here is nutz. I sure don't want to spend 20 or 30 minutes in a battle ground dealing with it. I run PvE with my guild and when that looses it fun factor I will move on if they have not fixed PvP. No big deal just poor balance on PvP

Having spent most of my MMO time in PvP mode, I also jumped in Neverwinter hoping for some fun in PvP. However, it's quite frustrating (although it can be fun sometimes).

The reasons I quickly spotted were:

    1) Very small distances between bases. This gets worse because mounts are allowed, so you literally need 5 seconds to go from one base to another.

    2) The damage gets out of hand very quickly. If three or more players focus on one, then it's inevitable that the focused guy will die in a matter of seconds. This is not very fun for newcomers or even players that don't have the opportunity to run premades. It also gets very very bad, since the distance between bases is so small that 'stacking up and farming everyone' is actually encouraged.

If those issues are handled, I guess that people will get attracted to PvP and stick to the game more (a good PvP environment is usually translated to more people playing the game). I understand that Neverwinter is focusing on PvE, but since they bothered with introducing PvP maps, then the developers should see to somethings. As far as punishing people for leaving matches is concerned, I guess that it should happen if most of the above are fixed. You can't blame someone that leaves a match in which he gets one shotted everytime he/she meets the group of enemies.

Some suggestions from the top of my head in order to fix the issues:
    1) Restrict mounts (or make maps bigger)
    2) Create specific PvP gear with emphasis on survivability and not damage (i.e. more hit points, more recovery and relevant bonus sets)
    3) Find and stop 'bugs' that lead to exploits (people climbing on unreachable spots and damaging from safety, or even groups jumping in other teams spawn areas etc.)

Oh and also, give more maps :)
