Neverwinter is expensive (rl money or time, your choice)

tl;dr version: This game is incredibly expensive either in time or money offering minimal returns for the effort. Stopping while I am ahead, so to speak.

As the title says, expensive. I know many people say you can play the market and I am sure you can, if you do not mind spending the time or seeking a way to somehow "get-over" on the game or someone. As a family man with a job, I come to the game to have fun...not day trade or work again for enough currency to buy a bag or dye. I've spent more than I care to admit and have really nothing to show for it, and I did not squander money spent. My contention also is that regardless of trading, someone is buying the Zen store only items to put up so that cash was still spent. The mindset of Cryptic/PW is disturbing as a usual AAA title is what, $60? This may be an mmo but $60 is chump change in this game. You can literally spend $100s on this title and still find yourself seriously wanting and/or lacking. I was looking at specifics like:

-Trade Bar cost. Mind blowing to think of the cost (or time) involved in attempting to get the upper end items. I know it should be hard but break the cost and time down (for one character, not account wide) and it is ludicrous.

-Bags. $10 for a single 24 slot bag, a profession can not craft these? Why even have professions? Oh yeah, to entice people to get the packs to reinforce the circular logic of it.

-Companions. $20 for a single character? Renting a horse? Buying scrolls to Identify (fun fact: in D&D Wizards gain Identify as a 1st level spell).

-Dyes. Cost are simply astounding considering they are one shot deals, don't think of using them to look cool leveling or best crack out the zen for some ad trading.

I also see disturbing things like classes having one path listed but boasting more to come. I see this as a cash ploy set-up as well since nobody has an alternate option right now. The moment options open up, people will respec and voila they cash grab more off of the fact that there was no choice from start. F2P is always expensive and speaking as a lifetime subber of STO (subbed before they went F2P) so I am not overly surprised but more shocked at how crazy the prices are. I just do not see how people can defend charging $200 for a pack as that's 3 AAA titled games there. Collector Editions of games at half that price offer an entire game and usually a statue or some other gimmick, here you get some digital items and Astral Diamonds...and you can bank on spending more down the road.

Unless Cryptic has grown tremendously in size as well it really sucks to see them fielding two mmos at one time. STO still is waiting on content promised in say the lifetime subscriber pack Romulan faction items.

    First: tl;dr

Second: Or you could just sit back and not be a try hard and just casually enjoy the game with what you get.

Long post so I hear you there but your 2nd point...nope. I'll instead go to a title that offers more bang for the dollar so to speak. Happy gaming, not responding to avoid bumping a thread. Just was speaking my mind.

PWE owns Cryptic, there are very few mmos where the company purposefully tries to make updates to slow people's progression.

Well ranncore, youve been around a long time, you probably remember the fact that people throughout beta said "its just beta these arent the "real" prices" or the "leveling is sped up for beta" or the" $30 for a companion is fine, all of you that say you cant afford it are all just greedy" or even "the game isnt that bad, its fine to put it in open beta/ launch already I mean we can already tell its nearly done from playing the beta weekends" yah.... here is where I pull out the big fat I told you so to the community. I said the game wasnt ready, prices were too high on everything, paying for scrolls with AD is dumb, and that you leveled to fast, and n the words of Tim the Enchanter "..Oh but did you listen no.." the community dug a hole wedged itself in and now wants out... and that is going to be hard to do...

Oh by the way I used you ranncore because you saw this stuff happen not because you did any of it, I pretty sure you were as against things as I was
    I am usually Deaths Crowbar.
