So I have just a few things to say about Cryptic/PWE that are bothering me. First Ill start positive. I love this
game a lot. I play daily and find many fun things to do with my guild. I do wish for the ranger class for some ranged variety, but that is not what this post is about. Its about feeling a little cheated. I was an early adopter of the $60 pack. I felt it was a nice boon for the mount and fun little extras. Then I used my ad( the 600k ad from the pack) to buy some stuff I thought would be helpful. Shortly afterwards they host a sale followed by a perm price drop. I didn't get any of my ad back as some sort of refund. This was annoying but I let it pass. Though in normal retail you can return an item or get the new price with in 30 days with receipt. I get its not normal retail so I just moved on.
Now not even 2 months into the game they release a new pack for 60 bux that's actually better in some
ways. For starters a race comes with it. I mean that offers a chance for new min max builds and everything based on traits and such. Also the mount is a purple not a blue. Which means you can take more hits before falling off. Id also like to add I like the mount way better but whatever. So basically I'm now being punished twice for spending money on this game. First with price drops and now inside 2 months another/better 60 dollar pack. I know its not a needed pack for me, but it is also a little insulting to me as a consumer to try to jip me out of 120 bux in a 2 month span. I just feel punished for being an early adopter and now I'm scared to buy anything that comes out, cuz a better deal is around the corner. This results in me personally not being able to contribute to a game I really love for fear of being burned. Just some thoughts from a concerned player.

I agree that it doesn't seem right that the Guardian Pack only gets a T2 mount. The Moon Elf race is of subjective desirability, (as they didn't list their racial traits), but the only other pack w/ an exclusive race was the $199 founder one. The same goes for the sylph vs the dire wolf - hard to say which is better w/ the limited info. From what I understand, the Greycloak item helps a lot from levels 1-20, but how much of a value you place on that is arguable. They both come w/ the same number of ADs, so that's a wash. The Guardian pack does come w/ a respec token while the Feywild one does not. The Feywild pack comes w/ an entire fashion set, while the Guardian one only has a mask.
So, really, it's the mount, race, and possibly the clothes that make the Feywild pack better.
Yeah... I can understand being upset about that.

Its PWE.
I wish i did some research about them before i spended money on this game.
Most of their games start good but soon after you have to pay for the smallest things.
Athleast i know now not to play anything with their name on it ever again.
The Jeep analogy was apt. No matter what you buy, the next one is going to be better, as they are trying to provide incentive for both the owner's of the old product (Guardian Pack) and those that don't own it to buy the new product (Feywild pack).
The Greycloak item is nice to clear through those early levels faster. If you make a lot of alts it's quite nice, and has the potential to be nicer over time as those alts add up. I like alts.
I can't. The Guardian Pack provides any that purchased it some nice utility that otherwise would have been unavailable over that time, and still remains unavailable in this new $60 pack.
I think you missed my point by quite a bit. It is a matter of how close the packs are together. Less that 60 days a part. I get people wanting new things more often but the fact does not change that during there rapid price drops and this better pack and so on. Shows me that I don't want to by something so quickly for fear it will be quickly replaced. It comes down to the time frame its all happening. I want to support the game cuz I love it but I have a limited income which means I become worried if I should spend my money on this or the next cool thing. It keeps going until iv spent no money out of fear of buyers remorse and get bored with the things I do have. Also fyi you can trade your jeep in for some value. I cant trade my founder's pack in.
Yeah, this type of selling method is really bad, for an existing customer's point of view. And love your trade-in examples. Much like handphones, where if an improved model arrives just weeks after you purchased an existing model, I am sure you can sell or trade-in for some cash value. Not so in here.
Only thing you can do is learn from it. If you had not spend any money on the new pack yet, decide yourself whether it is worth it or not, especially if you think that PWE/Cryptic is going to pull yet another pre-order nonsense in the next few months.
I can understand this. It would be nice if they put forth a list of some of their projected upcoming packs, that I'm sure are already outlined in their development plans, with enough details to hint at what might be in them.
This would allow those that don't have the funds available to buy every pack to plan ahead for the packs that will be of particular interest to them, so that the chance their customers will be satisfied by their purchases will be enhanced.
you might see me log in once a month.
and may see me in STO, and CO occasionally.
I will NOT join any more PWE games, I may join games that later become PWE, but NEVER any that start as PWE. (I also doubt I will purchase any Zen ever again... I'll probably just spend my lifer stipend in STO/CO once a month)
Whatever you buy, and whenever you buy it, you should always consider whether it is worthwhile AT THAT TIME. Of course, there will always be times when you'd wished you'd spent the money elsewhere, or on something else - but that's life.
Answer me this. If they gave you a refund for the Guardian pack and you bought the latest pack, what would you do when the next module comes out with another new pack - would you complain again?
They HAVE to provide newer incentives in the packs so people will continue to buy them - that should mean that the newer packs are always going to be better than the older packs.
Did Apple hand out refunds for the IPhone4 when the IPhone5 came out?
I don't care if they come out with new packs or not. heck the new packs could cost less, and have more in them as far Ias I care.
my issues:
1) not fixing things, more than adding new cashgrabs.
2) not telling everyone what they do get for X, before they buy X, and have it delivered.
________
point #2 is why I'm refusing to send any more Zen from my wallet to NW (if I even buy Zen, witch looks like I won't... I'll need the monthly game budget to spend on a game I log in more than once a month)
case in point is their "descriptions" on what you get from newest pack (I was actually going to buy it next month till I noticed a 2 second text in the video describing the pack, that made 1 item obviously a lot less valuable than I was led to believe)
the item in question is... the "Stone of Earth" described in the page you buy pack from as "gives you defense bonuses, and hovers over the players shoulder"
well what other "Stones" are in game that hover over shoulder and grant bonuses? "Ioun Stones/Companions" right?
*squints* go look at the movie http://nw.perfectworld.com/news/?p=933751 and pause it at 0:33
it's a "neck slot trinket"
if they are going to only display "need to know info" about a REAL $ purchase I'm making, only in 2s or less of a video that ether you may not watch, or might BLINK past it, then no reason to ever give money again.
down right shady business practices. (I already know that there will be hundreds of players complaining, or disappointed about that "Stone" being a neck slot, instead of a companion)
I posted similar things on the original packs where you had to consider a leap of faith when you bought them.
Agreed.
This is not correct. The new product does not have to be better, just different. New elements, such as mounts for example, that are desirable and unique to the new pack should drive the pack's sales. If each subsequent pack had to include more, and better, than the previous pack you would eventually end up with bloated packs the size of a new game.
Did the iphone5 come out a couple of months after the 4 ?
All of that said the OP has both a real concern, and one that is perhaps somewhat misguided.
The perhaps misguided aspect of his position is that he seems to be treating the new pack as if it replaces the one he bought previously. It does not. It is a separate product that is cumulative with the one he already has. He may not be able to afford, or inclined to pay for, both, but buying both provides one with all of the benefits of each. Sure you can only use one mount at a time, but so too can you only use one character slot at a time. The two packs provide variety.
Another reason that this position is perhaps misguided is that there were complaints over the cost or value of the original packs. People, in many cases, recommended not buying the pack and instead spending the money on zen/AD instead. So Cryptic/PWE have sought to increase the value of the new pack. Responding to customer complaints that your previous product offered insufficient vale for the price by attempting to increase the value of the next is not a bad thing.
On the other hand the OP has a pretty solid point about the impact of offering what might appear (to some at least) to be an improved version of the product for the same price (or the same product at a lower price) too soon. This creates an environment where one is discouraged to be an early purchaser. If this occurs as a one time thing it will not really matter in the long run, but if it emerges as a pattern it has the potential to have a pretty significant impact on sales. If you condition your customers to believe that if they wait a very short time before purchasing they can get a much better deal...they will. The sweet spot for lowering prices or increasing product value in other ways after initial release, without affecting future initial releases, varies greatly and can be extremely difficult to determine.
'Caine, miss you bud. Fly high.
and for those that already bought a different pack:
another companion doesn't help when only 1 can be out at a time... (especially when you have no details of what the new companion's stats are)
another mount doesn't help when you already have one of that tier, or better (only "looks different, and then you may not want the "look")
all "gear" in the packs so far are at most a T1 gear, so..... no real use at end game.
new race.... we do not know the racial modifiers, (for all we know the "new race" could simply be a half elf with a different skin = not worth anything)
it quickly boils down to buying the pack for EXTREMELY OVERPRICED AD, (considering the "most likely useless, most likely useless, is useless, most likely useless, nature of the things in the pack)
That is information that is considered necessary for the process of making an "informed decision" about whether to purchase, or what to purchase.
PWE/Cryptic really need to tighten up on this or someone will buy something, feel they got ripped off and start heading to whatever Consumer Protection body that had jurisdiction in their country.
