I recently had a poor review because the quest markers on the overland map (which I think was a bit harsh to be honest, as the reviewer said nothing about the quest) were missing.
I figured this was a game mechanic that was added automatically? Maybe I'm wrong, could someone shed some light please?
In your Story tab each Objective has a Waypoints property set to None, Points, or Area.
If those are all set to None, you won't have any markers on the map.
Set to Area you should have a blue oval in the area of the objective.
Set to Points and you should have a blue diamond marker.
A hold on.. thanks for that Eldarth, but they are not the one the reviewer meant (nor I for that matter)
The ones I am talking about are the MAIN map ones. The one that show you have a quest in a main map area.. such as Icespire Peak, or Mount Hotenow. The ones that hover over these areas.

go to the story menu, and on the very left hand side, click where it says the map name (you should be able to spot it, as itll have a yellow triangle over it, if you havent assigned a map marker before)
You should then get a properties menu for that map, which will allow you to configure the location markers.
Sorry I cant be more specific, I'm in work >.<

Thanks Drnoesis, but I dont have that problem... (I dont have ANY yellow exclamation marks anywhere)
This is becoming hard to explain now.
The map 'markers' you set as described by Drnoesis is not what my reviewer was talking about... I have those.
What the reviewer is talking about is the 'quest marker' that accompanies the map markers. (Or at least I guess that's what he means as his review say's and I quote)
"Difficult to find places to travel to, the world map didn't have quest markers" And he gave me a 3 star rating for that!! Which I think is extremely harsh.
But I also want to find out WHY my quest doesn't have these markers. As every other quest and every other foundry does.. Just not mine it seems. Which is what leads me to believe that its nothing to do with me.. Whereby I will go back to my reviewer and ask him to re-review my quest more fairly.
As the good Dr mentions above, if you have not assigned overhead map markers, I believe you will have a triangle error. If you don't have any of those, which I assume is the case since you were able to publish, then you should have overhead markers. Perhaps the problem was that the markers you assigned (your map names) did not clearly match the quest objective. IE Objective Go to the tavern with map called Townsville so the person did not know that the Townsville location had the tavern. The other options are that the reviewer was just confused or there was a bug.
Have you played it yourself? Do you see the overhead markers?

Hey, case, remember when you used the huge plus sign?
There's where you can set your marker for your location. There's a large circle over the map, and a tiny circle on the right edge of that... you can drag the tiny circle around by click and hold.
That being said... the problem is that the person who reviewed seems to think that he could just travel to your quest without using a transition spot. But you already indicated in your other thread that PE was the originating place for your quest. Am I incorrect?
Seems that the reviewer didn't know where to start out at from the very beginning (in PE). He was off at Blacklake or somewhere, and didn't know he needed to go to PE to find the first entryway.
The map markers, so far as I can tell, are relatively useless outside of that. It isn't like you can go out into the world and just explore, and stumble onto a foundry quest "town" or area, lol.
I would just brush that one off, personally. Seems he was off somewhere and irritated that he didn't know to go back to PE.

I appreciate everyones help in this matter... I find it increasingly hard to explain what exactly I'm talking about... And I think for clarity, the best way to show this is with a picture.. Just so we are 100% clear
This happens only on this particular part of the quest, it doesn't happen on all of them. And as far as I know, you CANT set this yourself?
Casek, when you chose what element to use to have your player go to the next map after they leave PE the first time, what did you choose? One of the gates? A house door?
I understand your question, but no one goes to your area to start the quest, they start it in PE... right? Isn't yours the quest where you are to talk to Guard Rinko first?
So the person wants to "go somewhere" to start the quest... but you're supposed to start it out in PE.
Breaching the Swarm NW-DUXUHQWNP
Pick your side, take a stand, save--or kill--your former allies.
The first time anyone leaves PE (after speaking to Guard Frinko - indeed your right he is the quest starter) is to go to the forest.. I have a forest icon and it HAS one of those quest markers.
When they leave that zone, they USED to go back to PE. But because of the cryptic map bug (where quests disappear) I changed that to the Barracks (which you see does NOT have the quest marker)
It was my understanding that whenever a quest tells you to go 'anywhere' it gives a quest icon, and a quest marker above it? Mine does not, so I am just trying to get to the bottom of why it doesn't.
Honestly I don;t really care anymore, this has been more trouble than it's worth lol
But thanks for sticking with me Nimmanu, your one of the good guys.
I'm pretty sure, and someone can correct me... but I think it only gives an icon if you are somewhere else besides the starting zone.
So if I'd been in the graveyard and accepted your quest, it should take me to a gate first, and from the gate, have the arrow marker to PE.
From there on out, you won't even see the overland marker (I wonder why it's there, to be altogether honest...I think they just couldn't be arsed to take it off from their own use).
Anyway, yeah, I don't think that's something that you control... and I wouldn't bother yourself about it any further. Some people simply don't understand or know about the limits of the foundry. This sounds like someone telling a horseback rider that a halter is needed when the horse was wearing a bridle... it would be redundant and pointless, lol.
If I'm wrong, I'm certain someone will correct me. I'm pretty new to foundry, myself. But I've played enough of them to know that they don't generally send you anywhere the same way that in-game quests do.

I'd be more than happy to trade a review (there is, unfortunately a bug with mine that requires a couple of reboots through the span of the quest to bypass >.< ) I've added your quest to my list to work through when I can.
IRL commitments mean it might take a little while (the missus doesnt understand the need for game time, lol) but as soon as I get time, I'll give it a pop for you
You cant say fairer than that Drnoesis, I will do yours tonight.
I know the rebooting bug, my quest had the same issues and it took me a long time to figure out how to change them.
In the end I started using (The Barracks) which funnily enough has been what this thread has been all about as it's the place that doesnt have the quest marker. I used this rather than PE, as the cryptic maps is what makes the quest drop from the journal.
I changed the two trips you need to make to Guard Frinko in PE to The Barracks and we have a working quest.
