Add a new item slot for companions. This new slot would be called companion armor and items slotted in it will have no stats but can be recolored and gives different set of skins to the companion. When you initially get a companion the slot will be filled with a white item that when recolored will change the look of the default set of skins that companions currently have. New items would be sold by the various vendors as well as being drops from certain enemies.
The new items for the slot can be unlock new sets of skins that will also be able to recolored. The items can be divided up into 3 groups. General armor which can be used by all companions, category armor which only only be used by some companions (for example, armors just for humanoids or just for animals), and companion specific armors which would be the rarest and would unlock a unique set of skins for specific companions.
Some examples would barbarian armor which would give armor like those used by the orcs or ghost armor that would turn your companion into a ghostly version of it's set. Baby tiger armor could make a cat companion look like that of a small tiger.
Thoughts?

Even if they just allowed us to use dyes on companions, and simply have the color apply across all of their clothes/gear, it'd be a welcome addition...
While they're at it, allow us to dye our mounts.
