Is there really a damage benefit to using unstoppable?
At-will attacks take about 66% of the original time BUT damage is reduced by about the same percentage. I measured using wicked strike.
This reduces Unstoppable to damage mitigation, resistance to control effects and temporary hit points. These are all good but I thought I was getting a little extra damage as well.
According to the description, the rate and damage of encounters and dailies is unaffected.
I think your math is a little off. Math has never been my best subject, but it's not a 66% damage reduction. I went from ~1400 Crit to ~1100 Crit after unstoppable. 300/1400 = ~21%. So it's safe to say, ~25% is the damage lost.
Percent of Change = Difference/Original Amount = Product x 100

My math was fine, my post was poorly worded. :P
I said that attacks take about 66% of the original time (34% reduction in time) and that damage was reduced by about the same amount (about 34%). I only took one sample and was looking for more input. But mine did show a 34% decrease in damage with wicked strike.
Man, I would guesstimate that attacks are sped up a helluva lot more than 66%... seems like RS goes from 3 secs to 1 sec. Maybe that is just wishful thinking? LOL

I think the point is you get resistant to stun and knock back with can cause you to lose dps either because u got hit by it or you run around avoiding it.You got to factor that in. You also gain more AP.

When pvping there is a huge advantage in terms of damage vs a GF because you hit more times for less.. eg, you will take down a fully guarded GF's block in one unstoppable.. where as they have enough time to recharge without it. Always pop unstoppable when you can vs a guard.
By the grace of The Grobble, I shall not be greebled.
Det IS a lot of my build as GWF, both in pvp, and pve.
Dunno bout your numbers man, when I got a sh ton of sh on me, I hit Slam, det and masters/sure it down. Ive slain over 50 mobs my level this way... at lvl 60 and in dungeon too (though I had help there).
Granted, I am tank spec and do 'less' anyways. However, still respectable aoe and add killer I am, AND able to hold agro on boss most of the time:)
One other thing to note is that if you are 60 with a weapon enchant.. more hits = more procs. and weapon enchants can do a ton. (well lightning can do a ton, some of the others are a bit.. meh)

It's definitely a Net Gain when you also consider Procs on Hit, Procs on Crits, Bleeds, Debuffs on Hit, Debuffs on Crit, faster AP gain, etc...

I appreciate all the feedback. I agree that the defensive benefits alone make it worth while. I can also agree that triggering procs by increased attack rate is likely helpful also. The crit stacking, bleed and damage stacking feats and passives definitely benefit from the increased attack rate. The net affect is likely more damage. I was referring to at-wills in a vacuum so to speak without the benefit of enchants, feats or passives.
I have a DPS build and pretty much rely on Determination for survival. I was just surprise not to see a raw damage benefit from Unstoppable.
