How do I get the time back up?

edited July 2013 in The Foundry
My foundry has been hit by the speed runners :( It has now dropped down to 14 min and is no longer available for daily rewards. Can I run it myself slowly to get the time back up or does my time not count since I created it? I did change a few things to hopefully slow people down but I'm afraid no one will play it now that its only 14 min. If I can I will put the time into it and then hope once its eligible again people will run it again. If my time won't count would anyone be willing to run it and see how long it takes you? Time is such a hard thing to judge. My quest is called Riddle Masters and the code is NW-DLA4ZT606. Take care!

This is a tricky question, I did a few things to slow speed runners down by design. Mainly puzzles in The Dwarven Tale. Simple but you have to open the gate in a certain manner, that way you have to go around one way or another. Then players do play it on different difficulties so the time pan out eventually. (But I'm afraid my 16 minutes might just drop down to 13-14 soon enough.)

Bah sorry was about to give it a go but I'm not into jumping that much :) About your particular question, from what I've seen in Hidden blade for instance: add a couple fights, an objective that will slow down rushers, etc.

Well, I took awhile.. (kept falling off at the end lol) It's still, sadly 14 mins, however. Sorry. :(

An easy solution is to add a mob with a lot of HP like a foulspawn hulk or ogre and make sure he aggros near an interactable like a door. That should slow down the average player by a minute and insure longer runs in the future.

Thanks purple for trying it out - I guess I'll add in even more things. I did get a chance to try your foundry and had just picked up the key when my internet went out. I really liked it a lot and I'll try it again when my internet is more stable. The whole quest is full of riddles and jumping puzzles to slow people down - fighting is optional. Don't really want to put in fights since the fighting is supposed to be a punishment for solving things wrong. So I guess I'll add more jumps again. So no one knows if my time is counted or not?

I think your play time is averaged in, but I don't think that playing your own quest is a long term solution. It is probably best to extend the puzzles. If you think speed runners are just purposely getting the wrong answers and killing whatever spawns then as mentioned prior, just increase the health not the difficulty on the encounter that spawns.

Thanks, and no problem. :) ...An idea that I have for you... The little mushroom hunting part was great..maybe if you have the other riddle masters have another side-quest like that before they'll give you the riddle?

i.e.: ..First one has you get some kind of light sources or something to power the light orbs...and for the last riddle master...maybe something like gathering direction crystals (north crystal, south crystal, east crystal, west crystal) to power the platform? I dunno, random ideas! XD Maybe it'll spark some ideas for you?

I think they are purposely getting all the answers right so that they don't have to fight anything at all. So since I can't place any mobs in that can block people if they get the correct answers - I don't think making the mobs harder will help. I did make a lot of changes to one room that should add a few min to the playtime from now on. I think I just need to get it back up to daily for people to play it again. If my time will count then I can hopefully get people in to try it again and the time should adjust to my changes. Its just getting to that point of being a daily again so people will play it again. Purple - did it take you just 14 min to do the quest too or were you saying that the quest was still sitting at 14 in game? I'm thinking that maybe I misunderstood you. If it did take you longer then 14 min - maybe the changes that I've already made will be enough. Thanks again to all for the help and advice.

That's actually a really good idea. Collecting would fit in with everything and is nicer to people then adding more jumps. I will think on it and see what I come up with. Thanks!

I took a good 30 mins or so. Was referring to the fact that it was still averaged at 14. I kept falling off at the end. :P

I did a speed run to see how quickly I could theoretically get through it (but now I'm waiting by the chest to try and up the time). It took right about 15 minutes, but this was with falling once on the first path, having to find the mushrooms (nice job on hiding them. But now that I know where they are, I could do it a lot faster) and going past the red flowers (I just HAD to!). I think if I did it again, I could prob knock it out in 10 minutes. And I have a feeling a lot of people are replaying it because it's a fast daily with no encounters. So.. adding some tasks would definitely help fluff that up a bit. You could even add a "timer" mech to the last part and call it a test of patience or something.

Thank you Mee for testing it for me. I do think that adding tasks is what I'm going to have to do. I had made the mushrooms harder to get and more jumps in that 2nd room but I think you are right that its not going to be enough. Thank you so much for hanging out in the room to try and get my time up!

I believe that it will always take your shortest run. IE If you ever ran it at 15 minutes, running it again at 30 minutes will not help. How many runs does it have? I can give you a rough idea how long to have someone stay in there for who has never run it before if you tell me that info. I am at work atm :D

Oh that would be terrible if it only accepted your shortest run :( I have 189 plays at the moment so the odds of getting enough people that have never run it before and having it take longer than 15 min is probably not good. Wow - that's depressing. I guess I'll still fix it and hope for the best. Thank you for the info though.

You could use some timers to delay spawning events.
I'm working on a village defense quest that has 4 "waves" of attackers burning down houses all paced with a bunch of timers.
Timers to trigger each wave, and then timers to trigger light fire -> spread fire -> burn house.
