I've been using the same set of gear for some time with the same enchantments but have recently had to purchase new pieces and use higher level enchants to get the same gear score that I had before previous patches.
I started out with 9.7k BEFORE the patch that came before the LIVE patch. After the patch, I had dropped over 300 points in gear score.
After the live patch(without switching anything) my gear score dropped even more, another 200~ points. This sent me under the minimum requirement for CN.
After the patch before last, my gear score dropped once again and I have since reworked my armor and achieved above 10k GS again.
I havent seen updates about changing gear stats or changing character stats that would affect us in such a way. Whats up with this? Has anyone else seen this happen to them?

I had a similar experience after the patch. My GS dropped from 9.7 to 9.4, without any changes on my part.
gearscore is just the summary of attacking/healing + defense scores and when you use feats that change those two stats, your gearscore changes too
Nope, no changes, just as turkf54 said as well. Logged in after the patch and wasn't able to queue for CN until i purchased a new piece of gear and an enchantment to go with it.
I'm a GWF and they didn't do anything but change the fact that DEX actually works for us now, which would make me think that it would increase my gear score. The drops in my GS also occurred on patches that were for other things like the Portal or GG.

Does your gear score fluctuate? I have found in protector's enclave that my GS drops by 500 points on occasion. I have tracked this down to a set of cleric armor that when worn as a full set gives near by players the "divine emissary" buff that adds 250 defense and 250 deflection, but for some reason drops your protection, and thus your gear score, by 500 points. I believe this to be a bug and have reported it, and I don't believe other people's gear should affect your gear score in any way.

well, it should drop your protection by 500 when the wearer of the set isnt near you

Nope, it drops it when the buff is active. Ether way, buffs should not affect gear score, positive or negative. Potion buffs do not, buffs from companions do not, spell buffs do not, other player's gear should not.
I do not see why a GEAR score should be affected by feats, buffs, or stats in the first place. What kind of HAMSTER logic is that?
"Sorry guy, you specced like a tard, can't let you in"
Loss of freedom much? This is why I hate gear scores in general :P
Hate to say it, but I really wouldn't want to run with people who "specced like a tard". However, the problem then becomes how do you quantify something like that and who gets to make that determination?

I would argue that if only one spec is useful, why have more than one?

I think it's kind of sad that lvl 60 becomes all about perfected minmaxing and loot gathering at maximum speed. I'd like to team with someone "specced like a tard" if they have a reason to do it. What's the worst that could happen - one meets someone with an interesting mind?

My gear score drops during encounters, i.e., skirmish and dungeons --- does anyone know why????

if a feat now gives less then befor, that might explain it

i could stack defensive stuff on my TR, hit like a wet towel and still have a GS of 15k

I agree, it's a ****ty way of doing things.
