I fought a GWF in 1v1 and the second he cast unstoppable his health went from 50% to 100% so I waited until it was gone and used my skills on him until he was down to 60% then he used unstoppable and it went back to 100%.
I went on my GWF and looked at every skill they might have that can do that but I can't seem to find a way to get all that healing.
It only looks like it. There are 2 mechanics of the game which any class has: Regeneration and Life steal. There is also the lifedrinker enchantment, which can give any person up to 16% of their weapon damage back from each swing. As a GWF has the wet noodle of high damage, they will be able to get a min. of 45hp back per swing with the less enchant alone. Given that tank gear has high regeneration and high lifesteal, once the GWF hit's the 50% damage value, regeneration scales due to the loss of hp. At the same time, The sentinel hits you a few times and is getting double hp gains from the weapon enchant and the lifesteal bonus. This alone can put the GWF in the 250hps scale if they are bad at using life-steal.
On top of this, they have unstoppable's Temporary hitpoints. Instigator also has a healing-type ability that procs when you go into Unstoppable. And finally, Restoring strike heals nicely. Even at lvl53, you can get healed for 1100hp every time it is ready. As they are sentinel they obviously took the 21pt. ability, providing 50% healing over 3 seconds. Ie. 1600 healing.
Now, you are thinking hey! They can tank now! But no... they still don't have reasonable threat abilities to pull from targets. Gotta let them go in first. Sentinel is basically the go to tree for pvp now. (I've seen TR's with the same getup, except they are approx. 90% of the heal potential of a GWF specced for it.)
I had the same thing happen the other day. My TR and another TR were fighting a GWF who was AFK/Lagging. He was neither moving nor using his skills, but he regenerated so fast that it took the two of us pounding on him over several minutes to kill him. And this was in a 39 PVP round.
When the dude was able to play again, I avoided fighting him unless we had 4v1 on him as it was a waste of time.

Why did clerics get nerfed on self-heals when we see melee characters get healing abilities such as this AND they have the ability to fight whilst they do it.
Not being funny about it - just wondered.

Apparently there's a special build for it as a GWF that I can't seem to figure out.
Even if restoring strike was at 100% heal it still wouldn't recover over 10k in one single swipe.
I have had my GWF use a heal build before, though I did not like it. What you are seeing is a low HP build getting skill heals back, I doubt the GWF you witnessed had over 22k health, most likely much lower. I can heal for close to 12k plus using my daily and my two other heal skills along with unstoppable, which takes all of 2 seconds and less of button pressing and will give me nearly a full bar under 19k hp builds over 22k builds will show much less of a "They filled to full health". Also, the daily is down until you get a refill. Most folks forget about the big heal daily which is dependent on number of foes and strength of foes around you, healing more or less. This is not a big damage build but survivability is pretty decent as long as you aren't tanking.
There is no worse feeling in the world than the moment during an argument you realize you are wrong.
The Glory PVP set gives an additional 10% healing so you can get up to 15% like that, then there is artifact healing, potions, restoring strike and life steal. If you hit the artifact, then unstoppable, crit on restoring strike and pop a potion all at the same time you can come close to fully healing yourself. Add in some lifesteal and regeneration ticking at the same time and it can all look like one big heal that brings you from near dead to full.
Why did clerics get nerfed on self-heals when we see melee characters get healing abilities such as this AND they have the ability to fight whilst they do it.

Consider what a GF / GWF has to give up to stack that much regen / LS - power, recovery, crit - all those get dumped to stack the self-healing. It has to come at the expense of something, after all.
Now imagine a DC stacking regen / LS at the same rate, and being able to heal themselves at full value. PvP would, I suspect, would soon resemble the Vatican with all the priests running around. Worse, matches would last for days as teams stack astral shields and sunbursts, keeping a full team at max. health as long as they stick together. :-p

Nope but it could be Unstoppable + Restoring strike that made it seemed like it recovered to full.

Yes from Regeneration good to have like 1200 1500
