Looking for reviews/criticism (First foundry mission)

Hi all. I was hoping you guys could give my first foundry attempt a look.

It's 15-20 minutes of killing, with some amount of dialogue. It's meant to be tongue-in-cheek and not really canon, just a fun little chance to squish a lot of spiders.

I hate spiders. I am so sick of seeing them in games. Which of course led me to wonder what all these game devs are thinking when they put spiders in everything. Thus my foundry was born!

Name: Arachnophobia
Short-Code: NW-DMRQYIZQT

No stacked encounters, but the second to last fight is waves of encounters, careful positioning will allow you to pull them individually. Potions are good to have but shouldn't need a ton of them.

I have a character i'm leveling only by running foundries, so I'm more than willing to review yours, too :D Thanks in advance.

I reviewed your quest for you. 5 stars for making an awesome quest. I couldn't really find anything wrong with it except for a spelling error I noticed towards the beginning. Aralon was talking about his "reseach". Anyway that was the only thing that I picked up on that was off.

I can't decide if I hate to love you or love to hate you as I absolutely HATE spiders. To be fair you did mention that there were quite a few spiders involved. It just seemed like a good idea for me to go squishing them until I was actually doing it. Then I got creeped out, lol.

Your story was fun and well done. Environments and NPCs were detailed and fun to interact with. Thanks for the fun story although I have to stay I probably won't do that again. My skin is crawling. :P

Thanks! Part 2 needs the most reviews and you can leave comments here http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?369081-Now-trading-reviews-for-The-Secret-to-Paradise-Part-2-Into-the-Mist.

Oh yeah...while playing Part 1 first is a good intro it is not necessary to enjoy Part 2. I try to make all my quest able to be stand alone so no one is forced to play the entire campaign. :) I certainly won't stop you if you wanna try out both though. Have fun!

OK, first point I want to make: as a general rule I hate straight out "hack-n-slash" type quest.

However, the concept behind this quest, its delivery, and the fact the obvious absurdity of what was happening was built in to the quest really makes this stand head and shoulders above generic hack-n-slash quest.

No idea if the "map" was custom or not - if it was then bravo, brilliantly done.

    5/5

Thanks. Maps were cryptic-made. Where my strength is writing/story development, my definite weakness is environment/level design. Some of the foundries I've run with custom maps are so well done, they make me absolutely sick at my own inadequacies in that area.

One of my dreams for the foundry is that they add a way to collaborate on quests...because I love to write stories...but making maps is not in my skillset, nor do I have the patience to overcome that deficiency.

Will add yours to my list of quests to play!

Try adding an interact animation to the potion you drink to enter the man's dream.

Talking to the game developer seems to have a little too much dialogue. I'd recommend getting to the point faster.

I think the last encounter was too hard. At level 35 I died twice and used up about 10-15 potions. And it really sucked having to run all the way to the end twice. Also, I kept running into some hard boss mobs on the way that slowed me down even further. I can't imagine how hard this would be at level 60.

    Hope that helps.

Please review my adventure in my sig.

Hey, I ran your quest a fair while ago and stumbled upon this thread after having seem Visigoth's video review and his link to here. I loved the story and the humor. I never would have guessed it was a cryptic map, it seemed so well done. If this is your first foundry then I recommend you use the skill you have to make more such quests. I really had fun and hope to see more of the same.

That was a fun little quest there. Cute idea and it was done really well. I do have 2 minor complaints though:

    - I ran on a low level, so I didn't have much trouble with any encounter, but it would be nice if the campfire was closer to the end. If I had died, running all the way back would have been annoying. Or you could add a portal or two if you want to spend an hour trying to get their y value right. Maybe Dave creates a portal back to the campfire after you talk to him. Just something to make it a bit more useful.

    - I hate, hate, HATE useless dialogue failures. It's becoming a pet peeve. They can be used well to add to the story, or create fun interactions, but when you first talk to someone and they have a random failure in there it drives me crazy. If someone doesn't want to do the quest, they will exit map and drop it. Having them at the end of almost every dialogue is at best uneventful and at worst annoying.

OK, /rant. This was a lot of fun to play, and I enjoyed the humorous story of it. I'll definitely keep an eye out for anything else you put out.

P.S. You don't have to play my quest, but if you do give it a week or so (assuming the Foundry comes back up within that time). Working on adding to/redesigning it and will need some feedback after it's done.
