I am having all kinds of issues tanking bosses. The run to the boss and all sub-bosses are ok. But the end boss gets me killed and party all the time. To many adds to many red circles of death etc.
Are there any vids on how to tank etc. so I can learn how to do this (unless it is not really my fault) and the fault of the others not taking out the adds fast enough.
If you stand still and hold down block you will die
Be mobile, avoid as many aoe's as you can without wasting your block meter unneccesarily and save it for damage you are forced to take
good advice, it's also nice to have a GWF in the group who can mainly deal with the adds and keeps the Cleric free to heal and the single target dps classes on the boss.
Move, Move, Move. If your trying to stand still and tank anything for more than a few seconds you are doing it wrong.
Block is only there for when you can't avoid a big damage spike.
If your pots aren't on cool down your doing it wrong.
You don't tank anything you control aggro. Use your knockdowns and AOE grabs.
Those are all statements that I've heard and each has a bit of truth. There is no "tanking" in NW as there is in other MMO's which is where most people get it wrong i suspect. Everyone must look after themselves while the DC helps. Your job is going to be to try group the adds up and keep them off your backline as they kill them. As your group gains experience you might be assigned the task of holding aggro on the boss so the TR's can burn it faster. Eventually as you gear up some more you get to the point where you can do a bit of both.
Notice I never said tank anything because you don't you control the aggro. Mostly on boss fights it's control the adds or play a game of stay out of the red circle with the boss.
In most dungeons you are not actually they guy fighting the boss. A tank in this game is focused on protecting the party from the adds, gathering them up so they are not threatening the cleric, and then holding them while the GWF and the Wizard deal with them as you assist in the killing. Bosses generally do not do much damage from basic attacks and instead create red zones that need to be avoided by those who are doing the killing. Mad Dragon is an exception to this but generally you are not focused on the boss.

There are not many things that are guaranteed to hit you in this game

Edit: Check out this Thread on stats, you never know your build could also add to the problem.
