It seems near impossible to keep it up for any reasonable amount of time. Every other class 4/4 bonus is hella easy to keep up, why is ours so bad?

because the devs like to take big dumps on GWFs (at least pve wise). Roll 2/4 avatar and 2/4 vigilant for now, until/if the devs ever balance out avatar's 4p bonus.
I think the 4set is very strong actually.
1050critt and recovery is massive. And you can nearly keep it up all the time.
Unless you just mindlessly spam your abilities.

That is a very rare Avatar set indeed, unlike everyone else's

Apologies, I'm rambling it seem's. That's how it goes when you stroll around on the forum and juggle work and forum time together..
I ment Recovery and Power and it's 1260 of each, no critt and not the bizarre number I stated.

What are you talking about? The set is complete garbage. Avatar's is the only end game set that relies on encounter usage, and is actually difficult to maintain. Look at rogues and GFs for examples... rogues is when using powers, and GFs is when taking damage... so friggen easy.
You do realize that we have an encounter that has 3 charges, yes? Makes it pretty easy to keep rotation. Charge, encounter awesome, charge, OMG! That guy hasn't used IBS YET!, charge... encounter awesome... charge... yada yada.
PS: That encounter damage when read correctly is just a touch below takedown dps.

I actually hadn't though about using that skill, hmm. I suppose it's worth losing a better damaging skill to keep onslaught up. Will give it a shot.
I don't have it on my lvl 60, so I can't give you the full damage value. Basically because you can hit 3 times with it, you can multiply the damage by 3 for a comparison of our other one-shots.
A 2pt feat will give my lvl50 approx. 970-1142 damage. While a 3pt. Restoring strike is 1752-2062. Of course this doesn't include hitting multiple targets or the conversion of using avatar of war 4 set. (ie. for scaling purposes, I'd claim that being able to use IBS X times faster will scale this ability.)

yah right. bull sht
you cant even get onslaught to fire, let alone maintain anything.

So I need to adjust my skills and play styles to accommodate the set bonus where as all other classes can use their sets without worrying about skill adjustments?

This.
(Looks like for some reason 4 is a cap to any gwf thing. 4-mob cap for hits, 4-sec cap for onslaught, and so on.)
