I have been looking forward to this game since I read about it many months ago while googling around about information on Neverwinter Nights (of which I was an avid scripter and player). I downloaded the client and created a character for Neverwinter weeks ago, but I have not played much. Although I have participated in a couple of closed betas in the past, I have found that I am not fond of beta testing games. I enjoy being a day one player, but not a beta tester.
My concern here is that given the FTP business model and the massive open beta, the launch of this particular game seems more of a formality than anything else. There doesn’t seem to be much media fanfare associated with the launch. I feel as if I have missed out on this game’s early days.
I’m asking the community and/or the staff, are we predicting a massive influx of new players when the game launches, so that I can feel that I am playing a newly released game with new players that are discovering the world along with me, or does the game’s current open beta community constitute the bulk of the live community and the go-live will come and go without much impact on the overall gameplay?
No mistake, I will play the game either way, but I just wonder if my concerns here are valid.
Regards

Massive influx? No, I suspect the majority of people who were interested in NWO are already playing.
LOL, no, there won't be a massive influx. Quite possibly the other way around.
As far as discovering the world..ummm..I hate to break it to you, but there is nothing to discover. There's a path set out for you by the game. There is no exploration, there is no discovery. This is the most straightforward, "on-rails", money grab game I have ever played.
I hate to sound all negative, but it's true. Every race and class you create will have the exact same adventure path. Each series of quests just hands you off to the next set. It's fun, sure. But it is linear.
Honestly, I think this gem flew under the radar. It wasnt hyped as much as a Guild Wars 2. But thats also because most of their money is tied up in game development, not advertisement. Also, this game is free to download, free to play like dozena and dozens of other games.
Id imagine most of the players are playing the game now. This open beta is/was a soft launch. Tomorrow we will just get some updates, a new zone/raid type of thing, etc etc. Im considering it a small content patch. But hey, there are many players in all of the zones leveling. Im leveling my first alt right now.
And like a previous poster said, theres no exploration other than looking in the corners and behind pillars or something for some treasure chests(which are abundant and worth looking for). Theres no exploration like in Gw2, or even *yuck*, WoW. Its a linear game. Do 5 quests here, move to next hub, so on and so forth then go to the next zone. The game is the most heavily instanced game Ive ever played which can be a negative, but performs very well and the fact that its an instanced game is its own nich

the game is already packed with players... now you don't see as much low lvls, but the game is full of people... and the Beta is working as a beta, still changing things, fixing things and stuff

This is mostly true, but there are a few quests that seem to be exclusive to each class.
Foundry - Fight Club? (nw-dluqbofu7)
- JailBreak (in development)
I think the developers have the balance pretty good in terms of the amount of people per instance (a little sparse now since the portal event's going on, but that's a good thing for this event). Usually, Protector's Enclave seems bustling with activity without being overly crowded. The single-player content is fun although a bit recycled. The environments are really nice and you can basically play anyway you want. I doubt a huge number of new people will be drawn from this launch but if they keep delivering in terms of content the way they have been (minus the glitches, the major ones really need to be solved prior to launches), this game has a bright future. The preview server is a great idea for them since most of the problems have come from inadequate testing and anticipation of the reaction of the community. Overall, it's great for a free game and it looks like some good content is coming down the pipe.
Of course, the best thing about Neverwinter (you guessed it) is the ability to craft many, many pairs of pants.

The word "exact" here is incorrect. Yes, there are many 'core' quests that are universal, but different races/classes do get a variety of side/flavor quests in each zone. A better term to use would have been "similar".

BTW, this isnt NWO. Devs have even corrected people on these very forums.
Its just plain Neverwinter.
I prefer to distinguish Neverwinter the MMO from Neverwinter the D&D city and NWN the Bioware games. Thus, I prefer to refer to this game as NWO. No, you can't stop me.
the official release was the day of open beta, the announcement of no more character wipes, and accepting money for virtual items.
anything after that is just marketing spin using semantics to make people think its somehow ok the game was, and still is, in a poor state.
"lets go ahead and release it so we can get some money"
"but its not finished yet"
"its ok, we will just label it open beta, people will believe anything"
