Gotta love the targeting

Is it me or is everyone else happy with the way targeting works? I wish this would be addressed and implentmented here in Neverwinter. Kinda hard to throw a heal to a tank that has 2 to 3 people infront of him. Just saying. Game needs something to be able to heal who you want to heal and not just hope the heal makes it to who you thought your recital was on. Any thoughts / comments feel free.

Yes it does take a certain amount of skill to target someone in a crowd.
Usually, what I would do is reposition myself by dodging or just running to where its clear to shoot.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. :p

I think its great :) its certainly a challenge. Specially with now that everybody must dodge red attacks or have 1 survivability skill on their encounters.

It helps if you can coordinate with party mates (via Voice, Chat, or w/e) when to heal (you can tell them to move out to make it easier for you). Telling them to turn off any companions that could impede your healing is another thing.

Otherwise you basically just need to point in the direction where you need to heal, and pray a topped off party mate doesn't waltz in. Usually it's easy now though, when TRs start using CoS, usually they need heals, a CW is basically dead before you can heal him if he gets spiked, GFs/GWFs almost never need heals, and when they do, you'll usually know as they're either running like headless chickens, or not auto-attacking.

agree. I like how it makes the gameplay more dynamic. but it took a long while for me to learn how to dodge then target

The targeting can be a pain sometimes, but if I could select party members with the F# keys or the like my Cleric would go from boring to Holy God I can't do this anymore.

Yea, I don't like the auto snap but you have to realise it isn't technically an aim, it's still a target select. Whoever/whatever your reticle was last Red on, that's who/what you will hit with your next spell, even if they're 90 degrees off to your right at that point. That's the bit that takes getting used to. I've been looking at the UI_Settings.txt and there are some settings regarding this. I haven't played with them yet but there do seem to be things to alter in this regard. Specifically the auto face target business.
Maybe someone else can play around with that file too.

I would like the option to be able to "memorize" a target in such a way that the game "remembers" it while I go about my business doing other things and targeting other creatures. Then, when I want to target the thing I have "memorized," I could push a button to instantly turn my camera toward the target and lock my attacks onto it until I let go of the key (or toggle it back off).

In other words, something similar to WoW's focus target system, where you can keep track of a second target besides your primary one and quickly switch to that target at the press of a button.

This would not fix everything, but I think it could help me with targeted debuffing during certain boss fights, or for providing clutch Soothing Light heals on endangered tanks (or on specific party members whom I know have a tendency to get themselves caught and killed).

It also copes terribly with scale, which means that every single BotS/Astral seal I throw in the karrundax fight hits...karrundax. No matter where I'm looking or how badly I want to finish off that stupid low-health kobold standing right in front of me. :P

Is there a hotkey to unbind target? Target locks kind make sense for more RPG-esque games where 'aim' isn't a thing and you just tab through targets or whatever, but in this game it seems counterintuitive, to say the least.

The Lock Target function (CTRL) helps a lot, I think.

But it's still not on the list of keybindings, which is a really stupid mistake from PW/Cryptic. Read somewhere that it's "listed as an error that will be fixed post-launch", but it would be nice to have this function mapped to the mouse :(

Yea, same thing in SP when trying to tag adds away from the dps on boss. 99% of the time your attack will just hit the boss. I haven't tried ctrl (the key to lock target) but I don't think it would be worth much in those kind of situations anyway.
