Bring back the ability to dye weapons

I have been looking around for a guardian Fighter weapon with a specific color appearance. Having a full red colored armor with a blue sword seems out of place. So, while looking, I found someone who managed to dye their weapon with the nightmare dye set, making the handle red and black.

So, I went and got the same dye, clicked change appearance on the weapon and "Can not apply dyes to weapons". I then went and purchased the same exact weapon he had. Attempted it again "Can not apply". So after some talking, I figured out that this restriction was due to one of the recent patches - specifically the one that changed it from when you looked at each piece individually to seeing your whole character.

Can we just bring back the ability to dye weapons... Almost all the swords out there are silver/gray all around, with blue handles...

*Update: I have managed to dye my weapon by using a small trick, which is detailed further in the post, along with an image. However, this may be considered a minor "exploit" as you will see from the method done - It is harmless and merely for cosmetic purposes.

Are you sure the person just didn't have a different sword?

Weapons, as far as I know, have never been able to be dyed.

*I wouldn't mind such a feature added though!

You can't bring back something that was never in in the first place.

Too bad you actually could dye weapons.

Edit:Just used dye on my weapon. OP is apparently doing it wrong.

To everyone saying it was never possible, I have seen it done. I have seen "Dyed" on a Longsword of the Valiant Knight or whatever. The person showed it to me, I inspected the person and saw it.

Now, the last two people here seem to say they can dye weapons "now". How do you dye weapons now? Please show/tell me how so I can get rid of this plain silver/steel appearance.

Drop a dye into the appropriate slot and hit change.

Ok, I have basically always run clerics which is why I came to believe weapons can't be dyed. None of the cleric weapons can.

That being said this is either a class or weapon specific features. Not all class/weapons can be dyed. :)

Going through the change appearance and dragging a dye into the right hand slot doesn't always work for me, it'll sometimes say you can't dye weapons. Don't know what's up with that, seems broken.

Right click a dye (not a dye pack, those don't work) and click use to dye..., then drag a weapon into the left hand slot.

I figured out how to do it. I will detail it here as it was "blocked" for an odd reason. My weapon now has a nice Gold/Silver/Red Appearance that matches my armor. I figured out how to do it. This may be considered an "exploit", but I wanted my Gold/Red Hilt sword badly to go with my Ember appearance.

Step 1. Grab any piece of armor, the desired dye, and weapon.
Step 2. Click "Customize" on the armor. Not the weapon.
Step 3. Load the desired Dye into the Dye slot.
Step 4. Do Not close the customize window. Do not click Apply. Instead, Now click "Customize" on the weapon.
Step 5. If all Steps done correctly, the Weapon and desired dye will be on the customize screen. Click Apply.
    Step 6. Enjoy.

Its kind of a harmless trick. It just lets you dye your weapon, not break the auction house to steal millions of Astral Diamonds ;p. Plus, Ive seen people just change the eyes on a sword to blue and its nice.

I applied the Ember dyekit to my Stalwart Bulwark sword - Now the sword has a Silver/Gold/Red Hilt and Blade design down the side. It looks totally natural actually.

Here is what it looks like:

From what I'm seeing, the patterns the dye outlines shows that we would be able to dye our weapons sometime from the staple all-grayblue look it had before.

Note: The Weapon Enchant is Holy Avenger.

I got it to dye my Bulwark sword with the Ember Elemental Dye Pack. I have an attached image above.

Back in beta, you could dye your weapons. For whatever reason, they disabled it. However, the steps mentioned above do indeed work.

My Ancient Castle Great Sword is dyed with nightmare, and is sexy time :)

I re-skinned my ancient sword with the Bulwark sword since it looked too much Phisher price with the baby blue hilt and plain gray appearance and spikes... I wonder how it would have looked with the Ember now.

Edit: Post a picture! I used to have one and I'm curious how it looks!

I think PWI is actually earning more "sales" of dyes now ;p

I really don't think that the 'trick' mentioned of how to dye your weapon is in any way an exploit. It is merely getting something working that seems to be arbitrarily broken for certain class/weapons.

I dyed my weapon without the use of any tricks only a few days ago. I simply double clicked on the dye, then chose my sword.

Looking back on it, it may have something to do with the fact that I transmuted a sword onto what used to be a Sharped Ice Axe.

That may work too, but I think someone mentioned dye kits don't work then or something. All I know is if you try to customize by first selecting the weapon, and then trying to add the dye in, it stops you saying "Weapons can not be dyed". so I fgured of a way to bypass that - a little overly complex. Your approach might also work, and is also more straightforward.
