To those who are saying the BoP change is good because the economy was being devalued by a flood of gear, I wanted to offer some insight as a long time RPG and MMORPG player.
Currently, Cryptic and a lot of the community is behaving as if exploits will never be fixed, new tiers of gear will never exist, and the Dracolich and CN is the end boss of NW forever.
The biggest reason for gearing up in an MMORPG is to reach the next tier, fight new bosses and clear new dungeons. Once another tier releases, the prior tier of gear becomes nigh worthless. The economy is re-fueled by new, more powerful gear and enchantments that everyone sets their sights on. That flood of old-tier equipment immediately stops being an issue. It serves to boost new players to the current tier more quickly so that the community stays alive and continues to be refreshed by drawing in more players.
New players pay new money which supports the game and funds new dungeons, tiers and content to be produced which keeps the geared players playing. When a new tier releases, you also release new tiers of enchantments and gear enhancements, all of which soak up AD to stabilize the economy and provide a reason for existing players to continue to pay Zen unless they have the time and will to grind it for themselves. In addition, old unequipped gear destroys millions of AD if players choose to unbind their best-in-slot enchantments, or otherwise pay plenty of new Zen to buy wards and craft new ones.
As long as the end-game gear is able to be sold, you will always have a functioning economy. The only reason the economy will tank is if Cryptic allows that gear to become stagnant and fails to produce new content. If too many AD are flooding the market, they need only create appealing AD sinks, such as higher level enchantments costing increasingly more AD to unbind. Plus, who wouldn't love to see rank 20 enchantments? :P
Cryptic made a big mistake by making PvP gear so powerful and easily obtainable, allowing players to skyrocket into T2 and after several hours of farming with good players, immediately start running Castle Never. They clearly expected, with all of their seal merchants and gear tiers, to see players spending months getting to CN. However, they've painted themselves into a corner. They committed to not doing a player wipe, and people are too invested with time and money for them to do so now. The only good fix is for them to release new tiers of gear. This would not even require a large development investment as existing dungeons could be re-released with an additional difficulty requiring higher gear score (who wouldn't enjoy an 11k gear score or higher Cragmire Crypts? When is the last time anyone ever ran that dungeon? It may as well be new content!)
As it stands, high-end players who are farming gear function as a kind of secondary Zen store for Cryptic without them looking bad by letting players directly buy gear. We sell the items and gear players want in return for real-money currency that we can use to buy in-game items. This is a win-win for all three groups, high-end players, casual or p2w players, and Cryptic.
P.S.: Devs, if you're reading, need roll = BoP, that is needed.
In your poll, i don't see the best option IMO. If u NEED an item, it becomes BOP. If u greed it BOE. So people will only need if they intend to use and item. I disagree with BOP in general because people will have no reason to rerun a dungeon after getting the gear. Now you will do cn again for profit. There is no way in hell i would do CN again to vendor my epic drop that I have to ROLL for it and vendor it for 10k or something...

Thats why this poll is better - it was also already posted awhile ago, not sure why we needed ANOTHER one posted.

It's meant to be a little more specific and capture what people think about the long-term effect. However, the point of the thread is not the poll. I wanted to add an additional perspective to the discussion. I felt many people were too caught up in the here-and-now to foresee the effect tier 3 or 4 will have when they come out. Thank you for the link, though!

I disagree. BOP will destroy the game on top of an already massively exploited economy.
