NWO goes live! Without finishing the classes?

We are still missing a class and all classes still have 1 paragon path. How is this game going live despite being so unfinished?

The foundry got some love but nothing of note so while people can create some fun stuff, it still lacks any and all depth. There are no unique boss encounters, or fights. Its all the same stuff re-hashed and maybe dressed differently.

The "coming soon" class has been coming for so long it's like a practical joke people forgot about and then we have the single paragon path for every class making it feel like it was just wording to feel special. Not anything that would actually allow class diversity.

Whats the deal?

What makes you think we are missing 1 class? We are missing a ton of classes, and they said they will release new classes every so often. Also I have no idea what NWO is, this game is called NW or Neverwinter.

Just a heads-up: our game isn't called NWO, or Neverwinter Online. It's just Neverwinter. :)

1 new class every 2 months, for the next 3 years, is what I hear.

    MMOs are a constant WIP.

If they waited to open the game until anything was finished it would never open.

i dunno, i think they need to go through the current classes and polish them off before adding new ones.

regardless if it is separate teams working on them, people are going to get mad if they see new classes and the current ones are lame.

3 things that need to be addressed right away in my opinion are:

    1) useless skills. every class has a list of them. (broken)
    2) spending 2/3 of the time just holding left button because you have so few skills on long cooldowns (boring)

    3) the game not being responsive. this one really gets to me playing a GF. if i am not holding down block for seconds before the attack actually lands the game probably wont register that i pressed the button. there is no developing skill and becoming better, you are just limited by the games slow response time.

the action is lacking in this action rpg.

There is a 99% chance they are going to add all the classes / paragon paths from the 4th edition players handbook. This game is pretty spot on for 4th ed. d&d. From what I understand they have the release schedule set for one new class and one new race every 2 months for the next ~3 years.

    Classes
    Battle cleric
    Devoted cleric
    Great weapon fighter
    Guardian Fighter
    Ardent paladin
    Avenging Paladin
    Two-blade ranger
    Archer Ranger
    Trickster Rogue
    Brute Rogue
    Scourge warlock
    Deceptive warlock
    Inspiring Warlord
    tactical warlord
    Control wizard
    War wizard

    Paragon Paths
Clerics: Angelic Avenger • Divine Oracle • Radiant Servant • Warpriest
Fighters: Iron Vanguard • Kensei • Pit Fighter • Swordmaster
Paladins: Astral Weapon • Champion of Order • Hospitaler • Justiciar
Rangers: Battlefield Archer • Beast Stalker • Pathfinder • Stormwarden
Rogues: Cat Burglar • Daggermaster • Master Infiltrator • Shadow Assassin
    Warlocks: Doomsayer • Feytouched • Life-Stealer
Warlords: Battle Captain • Combat Veteran • Knight Commander • Sword Marshal
Wizards: Battle Mage • Blood Mage • Spellstorm Mage • Wizard of the Spiral Tower

Looking at what's on the preview shard it seems they have no urgent desire to tackle most of the significant problems that the game has. I'm pretty much finished with it apart from pottering around in the foundry editor.

All MMOs are in a constant state of development but seeing as they made bold statements about mutiple paragon paths early, It's bothersome to a degree of non-playability. Its been the same thing to the point that it isnt fun.

If they released the rest of the paths before they went live, gave us that other class thats been sitting as "coming soon" and actually made the foundry have the tools needed for players to make interesting and difficult bosses, This game would never get boring. Like it is, it feels like a rushed generic MMO money-grab.

We don't even get community updates to tell us estimated times for new things. Just random blather pretending to care what we thing about the game. It's sad.

Ill believe the whole "new class every 2 months" when I see it. Cryptic's track record is rather poor on this. Yea, I'm looking squarely at you Featured Episodes and Comic Series.

A more reasonable outcome will be as follows. 1 new class every 4 months. For the first year, or until development leads change hats. Then expect a new set of promises that will not include anything previously promised.

IMO the way f2p mmos work they will release things like classes and expansions depending on their investors view on the life cycle of the game. The main goal is end game customer retention and that will determine when the releases happen I think. If they release everything at once the life cycle of the game would drop.

If they make new classes and class paths for pay, like the Super Archetypes from Champions online and most of the classes in EQ2, then they will have monetary incentive to keep that schedule. I genuinely don't know what the breakdown of "players paying for new classes" versus "Players playing for yet another companion/mount". I know the latter are pretty easy to make and lucrative to boot.
As a bonus, most of the classes from 4E are pretty much ready-made for an MMO. Take existing models, pop on a few new animations (or don't. I'm easy), and boom: you've got your classes. I will say that with only five classes, this is one of the least diverse MMO's I know of.
I think one of two big determining factors is how well the ranger sells when it is released. If everybody runs out and buys one, then they'll pop out more classes quickly. If its not a hot commodity... well, you can do that math.
Of course, the other factor is how many people even play NW. If it has a regular player base of 100,000, then they need 20% of their players to buy each new class at 10$ to make 200,000$. Is that going to pay for the man-hours needed to make a class/path? I dunno. I know I loved my 4E warden and shaman and sure hope they make it to the game.

I am really enjoying Neverwinter, but it needs polish and fine-tuning badly. You can play *around* the problem areas, (some powers or abilities not working right, etc), but it diminishes from the overall experience.

When the "new shiny* feeling wears off, all those little issues start to add up, and can very likely deter a player from, well, continuing to play.

Devs: If you are smart, and if you want this game to last a good long time, stay on top of all those minor issues, and keep the updates and fixes coming. Stagnation is the death-knell of any online game, so keep on top of this stuff and people will keep playing!

One last thought - keep the regular/legitimate play styles that you want to see people following, rewarding!

So by the sounds of it, this game will be playable in... 3 years!

Of course, that's assuming that it lives that long.
