Anyone else having problems as a lvl 60 cleric soloing Foundry quests that are supposed to be soloable? Most recently I had to abandon Ravenloft because there was no way I was getting through it. I couldnt even come close. The mobs were just too much and I died quickly. Before that there was one called No Time for a Count or something like that and I had to abandon that one also. And then there was Crypts of Carnage that I did at an earlier level without too many problems, but at lvl 60 as a cleric I couldnt get past the early mobs.
I love this game for the Foundry and don't feel like making another character but might have to or give up the game at this point. I am not even close to getting through these quests anymore. What gear do you need? I am currently doing a quest now that the author claims is able to be done by 60 clerics so I am thinking this is not just my problem. Any thoughts?
What character should I make if I want to do Foundry quests? Hell even with difficulty sliders on easy I can't do most of them anymore at 60.
Combat balance is difficult, and a lot of authors (accidentally or purposefully) push their quests too far to the "hard" side. There's a few reasons for that:
Monster difficulty scales dramatically past level 30, but our "Author" avatar can only respec to levels 11, 21, or 31 in the various classes. That makes it difficult to really check what things are like at top-end, especially as few of us have two or three live characters at max level - much less all five - to beta test high level play with.
Not all classes handle all encounters equally well. A healbot-specced cleric may not have the dps to solo mobs that keep pulling in adds and/or heal themselves; rogues may have trouble with large groups of minions that a wizard may handle with a couple AoEs. There's only so much we can do with the encounters (which are pre-made) to balance them out for everyone.
Authors don't want their missions' combat to be a snooze-fest, so they sometimes intentionally try to make things challenging - stack encounters, use more "hard"-rated encounters, etc. They often overcompensate, though. One of the more common patch notes I see on missions is tuning combat difficulty down.
After a while, it's also easy to have run through your own content so many times that you can do it by rote, regardless of how challenging it initially was, and forget that not everyone will have as easy of a time with it. Or you just get used to God moding through it.
What the author finds simple might not be so to everyone, and for non-class reasons. They may just plain be better at combat than most people, have a better build, be better geared than average, etc. So things test fine to them, but Joe Average could still find it difficult.
With all that in mind, it's very hard to make fights that'll work for all classes across all levels for all players.
As for recommendations, a buddy can help a lot. I find it doesn't trivialize solo content too badly, and gives a nice buffer for over-tuned difficulty. Barring that, clerics are probably the class I most frequently see having trouble with Foundry encounters because of level scaling. My CW hasn't had too much trouble with Foundry missions, but she's the only 60 have, so I'd be hesitant about suggesting any specific class for Foundry running.
At level 60 your build makes a much bigger difference than at lower levels.
I suggest reading some of the new information on the Cleric boards in regards to the changes recently made. If all else fails, try to group with a friend. if you do not have any friends, I'll be your friend.
There is a rumor floating around that I am working on a new foundry quest. It was started by me.

Hey there rycele,
I replied to your other post made in the gameplay forum and gave you tips on how to complete Raven loft if you found the last fight to be too difficult.
You can also visit the thread in my Sig for the same info on the OP.
Cheers!

Hey there. I run Foundry with a lvl 60 Cleric, too. It's hard, yes, and some quests are simply impossible. I found it helps to wear pvp gear and have also heard the pve epics are quite helpful. If you have time to spare and like either (pvp or pve) you may want to look into getting a set that aims towards high(er) recovery, power, defence. Personally I like to take my (white) tank companion with me, though he does require you to keep an eye on him non stop.
For encounter powers you may want to look into CC (burning chains helps a lot with groups of mobs). Astral Shield is good, especially when you use a tank companion.
FF, PoD, DG are nice for dps. Though I must say if you shift around a lot, FF won't be much of a heal mechanic.
For dailies, I removed Flame Strike. It's too slow and doesn't do enough. Nor does it heal or CC.
I found Hammer of Faith handy, especially for larger mobs and those pesky self healers.
If your main problem is survival, you may want to look at Prophetic Action and Foresight as class features.
Another thing I found would be that I am a shifter. I dash all over the place (and thus require quite a bit of space). Dotting up encounters on the run may be slow, but if it keeps you alive and gets them dead, I don't see the problem.

Thanks all for responding. I realize I need to roll another character to ever continue playing the Foundry missions. Great info on how authors create their quests. I guess I just assumed there were many lvl 60 characters creating Foundry missions and running them. Now I see it really is impossible to balance everything for all classes. I figure I will just create a trickster rogue and when he gets too high I will delete and make another one. No way will I ever get T2 gear or PvP gear so my cleric is sidelined for now.

Also rycele, I made some quests specifically for the level 60 cleric. They are called "Easy Quest" Easy Quest 2 seems to be the one people like the most. Easy Quest 1 is boring as hell. Also, my "A Haunted House" is easy and I find it the most enjoyable. All those maps have easy mobs.

So funny because "A Haunted House" was the next quest I was going to do on my cleric after the three previous ones ended in fail for me. I figured this would be like the previous ones and just cancelled it. Maybe I'll go back and try it now. Thanks. Anyway, I did make a trickster and hope to play over the ones I missed.
