A few comments about GWF and GF after playing a few T2s after the Patch

1. We complain that end game bosses don't require tanks. The truth of the matter, in my opinion, is that the lack of a real tanking ability class at start of open beta led the development of strategies that didn't require tanks. The presence now of a threat holding tank, and they ***can*** grab and hold threat now, changes everything. I'm still getting my head around CN Dracolich, but I think the tank can play a nice role there shepherding Red Wizards if not flat out tanking all the adds. I had our GF tank adds on Spellplague final boss with a cleric healing him. The rest of us (CW, TR, GWF) shredded the boss through his 20% increments.

2. My Instigator GWF feels like a beast. Now, granted, my overall damage was better, my DPS was better (per ACT parser), but I just felt really good. I felt more impactful on trash. I use Roar and Daring Shout for Determination generation but with the decrease to the cooldowns, Roar might just be enough on it's own. This is very promising.

3. It's nice to see decent numbers from not so fast. Quite a big boost especially against single targets as advertised.

That's it for now. Going to do CN tonight in a one of each class 5-man and see how it goes.

As a non-instigator spec, I still used leap followed by not so fast during the mid-late 20's during skirmishes and some dungeons. I found it a lovely combo for a mini-stun and a slow; when trying to help the clerics, even if it's damage was bad. Specced through instigator would allow a GWF to gain CA over a 6 second duration if used right. (at the time, I deemed it nice, but not useful enough.)

I never really did link up daring shout yet, even though I put it up to 3/3. Normally, roar was all I needed to keep slam up most of the time. (when CW's let you hit mobs, of course.) But then, I was doing OK damage with the other two encounters that allowed reasonable AP generation with the recovery gear I have and with the destroyer capstone.

I did 3 elites (t1's) and had no trouble holding aggro on boss + adds as a pure tank build. 36 ac, 32k HP, 48.8% to deflect and attack and 28.8 dmg reduction on all hits....

Only time i didn;t have aggro was when a DPS ran ahead of the group and i had to play catch up...

Over all i am very happy with the changes. Before i had to remove my self from the red area, now my shield can take it no problem and i have enough time to build my guard back up.

Love that i am again a tank, and not a DPS in plate...

Dragonmonk, what build are you using? Did you stay Conqueror or respec to a more tanky state of being?

My gear is still bad (not yet full T1), but DPS GF spec in Epic Tier 1 Dungeons is still doing just fine at this dungeon level. The guard increases allows me to maintain a high DPS spec just fine provided I manage my positioning well. Not sure how necessary a more tank oriented feat spec or gear spec will be at higher levels. I'd personally rather just remain DPS spec and not only tank but compete with rogues on meters in T2's if it is possible this patch.

I'm doing okay as a DPS spec full timeless GF in T2 as well. The guard buff is actually pretty nice allowing me to get Villain's Menace or Fighter's Recovery up easily whenever I choose to block any huge incoming attacks and usually still have 1/4 of guard left.

I did had to use fighter's recovery more often during some boss encounters though due to the new aggro getting more adds on me on occasions where astral shield is on cool down but generally it have been a lot more fun as compared to pre-patch :)

Would you mind posting your Instigator build? My GWF is in his early 50's now but have been thinking of switching over when I hit 60.

I basically just use Extinction's build at: http://nw-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?173021-ExtinctioN-style-GWF-Initiator-leave-them-all-bloody

I do things a little differently, but not much.
