I just starting a rouge and was curious if it matters what weapon is in your main hand. I have played other games where dual wielding will reduce the amount of damage or stats in the off hand weapon. Is this the case, or does it not matter where each weapon is placed.
I've seen a lot of rogues with a higher damage weapon in their off-hand than main hand; it's had me wondering whether they're just not aware of main hand being... well, the main hand or whether I'm missing something. It'd be good to have an answer.
I cannot verify it, but in *most* games *most* of your attacks use the damage off the main hand weapon as the "base" damage and only the few attacks that *use* the offhand benefit from it. A *few* games average the 2 or something. Someone needs to experiment with this to find out but "at a glance" I would put the higher dps item in main hand until someone proves otherwise.
Note that the *good* gear usually forces one item to be mainhand; this is done so you can only have 1 of the powerful enchants (if you could equip those weapons in both hands, it would allow 2 of the enchants which is not currently allowed (they would have to change everything for many classes like GF to allow the enchant in their shield or GWF for their rope etc).

As far as I've been able to tell, it doesn't matter which hand you put items in (ignoring the few Main Hand Only ones). The base damage just gets added together, and the stats apply equally.
I leveled to 20 without ever replacing my offhand weapon from the crappy dagger you get at the beach. Changing my main hand weapon would increase my damage for all attacks, and I didn't have any attacks doing dramatically less damage than others. When I finally remembered my offhand slot my damage for everything just went up. So I'm pretty certain quorforged is correct.
Yes, in this game it doesnt matter if a weapon is in the main hand or the off hand. it adds them together for a total, for those who like math to make sense, it goes like this:
Main Hand: 750
Off Hand: 250
Total Dmg: 1000
Main Hand: 250
Off Hand: 750
Total Dmg: 1000
ONLY thing you have to watch out for is if a weapon says MAIN HAND, it can ONLY be put in the main hand and not the off hand, so if you buy 2 of these you will only be able to equip one. Hope that helps!

Then it be due to the Weapon Enchantment slot that only main hand weapons have.
