My First Quest... Critiques? Comments? Reviews?

Hi,

I just posted my first quest. Hopefully there will be sequels, so I've put it into a campaign called: "Sylvanheim"

The quest is called: "Chapter One: The Scourge" (NW-DOQ2187K9)

It's a short 30-minute solo quest. If you also have a short solo quest that you've created I'd be happy to trade reviews.

I'd appreciate any (non-ego-shattering) feedback.

Thanks!

-Ash

    Grats Ashaas,

I just released mine Bloodwood last night..

I'll kindly trade reviews with you.
Please be delicate on my public review as I'm still tinkering with mine.

Post any criticism or errors in here for me, so I can repair.
    I'll do the same.

    Cheers mate

(my short code is in my Sig)

    SPOILER ALERT

OK I tried to review but I couldn't finish.

This is far as I got.
-I really liked the detail on the interiors.. really nice
-Captain Tallband's tent is floating. (rotate and lower)
-Boat transition great touch, really liked it.
-Line of sight on the door on the ship said I had no line of sight. Maybe it needs to come out a bit?
Had to angle to get in.

Started to Explore the scourge, Then I got smashed!
Stacked mobs in small spaces are a death trap for me.. Gah..

I used every potion on me, cleric companion died repeatedly..

I'm not sure where the re-spawn point was located but I repeatedly dropped to my death. I eventually I had to force close to desktop to get out... Might want to have a look at that re-spawn point on the ship..
(Have about half an hour of injury time ...lol..)

I really like the design and concept of your quest, but i personally think you need to tone down the mobs, at least for me.. careful of overlapping mob zones.

Hope you see this as productive input, not trying to be negative, just helpful.
Like I said, Really cool looking with great story and design.
Just couldn't get through it to review it.. sorry.

I'm so sorry...That sounds like a really frustrating experience...and I know exactly what happened. I was trying to place the campfire on the other side of a wall since I didn't think a big fire inside a ship made much sense. You were spawning outside the ship's interior (which was actually a scratch-built structure inside a large cave) and falling to your death.

Wow, that was dumb of me...and I'm sorry you had to use up your potions.

With the mobs: What class were you using?

I'm heading to bed but I'll check that stuff out tomorrow (as well as your quest). Thanks for trying it out.

    Ha.. it's all good Ash.
    I'm a lvl 38 Rogue with a lvl 15 Cleric.

Being in a small closed area like that, was gravely difficult for me. Even in stealth mode i was setting off multiple mob spawns.
Maybe set them to spawn after an event, rather than area trigger.
Would help control the amount of mobs spawning.
It's a very small area.. death box.
I had that room full up and the place was lit red with multiple AOE.
Quite comical running around in small circles like that.. while it lasted anyway.

Lemme know when you tinker it and I'll have another shot at it.

    Cheers mate.

It bothered me that my quest was published with such glaring problems so I stayed up until some changes had been made:

-I added some spawn-points to the exterior of the ship maps and got rid of the one that was causing you to plummet to your undeserved demise.
-I changed the mobs slightly. The troops (standard and easy encounters) still stack, but it's no longer possible to agro the officers (hard encounters) in the middle of those fights (they don't show up until you've defeated the troops now), so it's still a challenging section of the quest, but it should be a lot more manageable now.

As far as your quest goes: I had trouble finding it. I searched in both the new and best tabs, and scrolled down through the to-be-review list (using the code, the title "bloodwood", and author "crowthorn"). When you look it up in the catalog how do you find it? Does it matter what zone I'm in when I search? Let me know and I'll check it out tomorrow.

    Take care,
    -Ash
