Thanks for the replies. Feels like it must have worked since when I got back to my computer, the window was closed and the game loaded as expected.

The launcher never used to open after I exit until recently. Now it still opens even if there is no patch and then says 'patching 1500 kb' for a split second and goes away.
They changed something. It's a minor annoyance I guess but still annoying.
You know if they are going to pre-patch things, it might be a good idea to setup an old school ftp site for us to download as and when we want. I am sure the community has some clever boys and girls who can whack up something like this?

Two posts above yours, is a link to the thread which talks about this.
The Neverwinter Launcher now has a feature that allows it to begin downloading data for the next version. This makes it so that when a new patch is released, you can already have a majority of the data and can begin playing more quickly.
This feature is automatically enabled, and will automatically open up a version of the Neverwinter Launcher when you close the game. The Launcher will then begin to download data files that will support the next Neverwinter patch. You can close this process at any time, and your download progress is saved.
So yes.... they changed something. And even told us about it.

If it completes the download you are good to go. If not then you are in the same boat as a lot of us.
