Is it lag or game mechanics

Quite often I will walk, glide or run out of the red warning areas of an attack from a mob and still take damage even after I obviously cleared the area before the attack. Is this lag or just a flaw in the game. Many times this is game breaking during boss fights where you can be almost one shotted. If this is lag is there anything I can do about it?

    Get in game and /netgraph 1 check your ingame latency.
