icon vs runestone? Ioun Stone

I'm looking at the Ioun Stone and Rune Cat.
An Icon slot was mentioned in a few posts.. what's the difference? Are Icon's the same as Rune Stones.. was this in closed beta and not now? I've searched and find little about "companion icons" or icons in general..

The ioun stone appears to have two offensive rune slots and one def and three slots for magic items.. still curious to know if the rune stones that stack stats and the equipment bonuses applied to the ioun stone carry over to the character. (and not just the base stats of the ioun stone).

Can anyone verify this is true (not by assumption, but by testing)

An icon is the offhand item that a cleric uses, so would be 1 of the 3 magic items that you mention rather than a replacement for a runestone.

OP the stats loaded onto both the cat and stone are augmented onto the player stats but don't effect your gear score and aren't carried over to pvp.

Both have 2 offense and 1 defense slots and the stone holds ring, neck & icon whereas the cat holds a ring, neck and belt.

Cat for CW & the Stone for the other 4 classes seems to be the general consensus, we don't need the stone's extra recovery potential since 3k soft cap and can get 4k easy from gear without even trying to stack rec.

Go big with the cat's power/crit potential instead.

You're mixed up. the Cat has crit/recovery at higher values with no power.

stone has power+crit+recovery at an even spread

ok thanks for the clarification but the cat still seems better for my build, are the stats available on icons the same as those available on belts?

The stats on icons are superior to any belts currently attainable (Edit: Stones and cats both transfer all stats on them except +Health Points, so the major stat of belts are wasted). You will gain Power/Crit/Recovery and an offense slot from all of them, with the easiest attainable epic versions having a 161/161/129 breakdown in various combinations with an offense slot.

Honestly, I'd take the Ioun Stone on any class I played over the cat. Especially for 300k+ cheaper.

kk maybe the stone is the way forward then think I'd already max leveled my cat before the stone was released I've got a blue power/crit/rec/offense slot belt on mine but I can't get in to check the values because patching.

It's think it's 150/150/110 so not a huge amount in it but at two thirds of the price is clearly a better deal.

The cat is better for a rogue because of the crit, but can only slot belts. The stone is better for cw's because of the recovery and power and the ability to slot recovery gems. OP is asking if the icon slot on the stone is as good as the belt slot for the cats.
